I am a gift card gal.  I figure they know best what they want.  I give all my family Amazon cards and let them call in and get something THEY REALLY WANT.

@nana59

Can you find out something more about them?  Such as what are their interests, can they play DVDs where they are - maybe a special show -, do they read or listen to audible books?  Maybe a magazine subscription?

Some here said a gift basket.  If you can find out whether they have any dietary restrictions, use those guidelines.

Another idea is something from the era in which they were 20 or 30 that might bring back good memories.  Maybe music, or a vintage magazine?

Have fun!

Contribution to a favorite charity, or to their account at retirement home. They have a “bank” at the homes so the $ could be used for hairdressing, group trips, buying gifts for or tipping aides.

These ideas (some of them) are NOT good. People move to Retirement Communities for many reasons, but they are not infirm, etc.

Stamps are great, but Mom could buy these at the desk.

Food--if these people are diabetic bad idea. Also the dining room provides food.

Where Mom was the dinig room did not serve soda and many of the residents missed it.

DH andI had both Moms in a Retirement Community so we are a little knowledgeable about stuff.

They make lots and lots of foods that are sugar free and suitable for diabetics.

Maybe it's just me, but if I happen to live until I'm 91, I'm going to eat whatever i want.

Re: Gifts for Seniors!

[ Edited ]

Lip balm, hand, body and foot lotions, nail polish, emery boards, a small lighted magnifying cosmetic mirror, warm slippers and socks.

A nice outfit with pull on comfortable pants, pj’s or robe, a new brush and comb, hairspray, shampoo, nice bath soap.

Candy, adult coloring book, pencils.

A lap throw, bedside clock with large easy to read numbers, a flash light, gift certificate to get hair done at retirement center or money in account to use for such services. A sweater.

Easy to get on necklace and earrings.

Hey, they are still girls and still want to look, feel and smell pretty.  Age doesn’t diminish that.

A nice super soft stuffed animal. Could be used as a pillow, prop for under feet, a docoration or cuddle thing. You would be surprised how many adults love them.  I saw a report that said 51% of American adults have ay least one in their bedroom.

You could make up a gift basket with many of the items above.

My sister-in-laws Mom, who all be 80, says " if we can't eat it, we don't need it". I love that expression. So, maybe an outing to a restaurant. Or bring the ladies a home cooked meal. When my Dad was living in a senior citizen apartment, and even when he had to go to a nursing home, he loved it when one of us brought him a home cooked meal.

My mom really enjoys doing word find puzzle books.

You can usually find them at dollar stores but we have an Ollies nearby so I

get the thicker books there.

Crossword, Sudoku puzzles, etc. if they have good eyesight. Large print is usually

available too. Make a gift bag with their favorite snacks.

Nicely scented room freshners or something early for Easter, like a small bunny.

Visits are nice, but my Mom was so busy (MIL,also) it was hard to work around our schedule and theirs.

One of the things we did was make them our sweethearts for V. Day. Either come here for a lunch or go out. Did the same for a friend who was like a mother to DH.

My Mom loved doing the word search puzzles. Did till the day she passed on at 98.

She died 8 years ago this month and reading these things makes me miss her so much.
