On the Quandary thread, a poster wrote she spent $400 on each grandchild. That's made me think about the other set of grandparents. Will they feel they need to match the $400 or at least come close? That's $800 of gifts without whatever the parents/Santa spend on each child. If the other grandparents spend less, like maybe $100 or just $50, will they be seen as cheap?
So now I'm wondering the motivation of the big spending grandparents, are they trying to gain favor, is it a power play?
I don't have grandchildren but if I did, I would have a discussion with the other grandparents and come up with an amount that they want to spend and I would do the same. I have only one child so, for me, there is no limit on what I can spend. That's not the case with other families who may have more children and lots of grandchildren.
So, outspending the other grandparents, is it fair, is it kind?
