Gifts aren't opened at Showers anymore?

At my age, I don't go to many Bridal/Baby showers anymore, but I was surprised that they don't open gifts anymore. The ladies at my table told me that is the "thing" now......

I haven't been to a shower in years. But I loved watching the gifts being open.

Yup, at a baby shower I attended everyone sent the gifts directly to the house.

They sat around and pulled out a few incidentals from the wishing well, played games, chatted and ate.

They even ask you on the invitation not to wrap it or wrap it in clear cellophane. Then they're displayed for you to look, at if you want to.

Some they do, some they don't.  The last baby shower I attended earlier this year gifts were opened.

My goodness!  Do they ask for the receipt to be displayed also?  Very poor.

I won't even ask about thank you notes.

Every shower I've attended except one, they  opened the gifts at the shower.   I've never attended a shower where they've asked to have the gift wrapped in clear cellophane

Shower gifts are opened in my neck of the woods and the gifts are displayed, except for gift cards.

At my granddaugher's baby shower last year, the gifts were opened.  Instead of playing games we decorated oneies and tiny tee shirts for the baby that DIL found about on Pinterest.
