I gave my physical therapist a gift card to her favorite store and she baked special cookies for me and mr henny. I can't eat them, but mr henny is thrilled.

Many physical therapists enjoy baked goods and candy. They're not all alike.
I've had a lot of PT in my life, and occasionally I brought in pastries or other things. The therapists and other staff were grateful, and enjoyed what I had brought. Usually, by the time I left that day, it was pretty much all gone.
I also have friends who are physical therapists, and they definitely like cookies, cake, etc. Not all physical therapists restrict their diets to that extent.

I go to physical therapy and while it never crossed my mind to give a gift, I noticed they had several gifts of baked goods today.
Funny story - the office must have been having a Christmas party today because I noticed one girl dressed as an elf -- red/white striped leggings and a long green jacket with a pointed hood. There were several more elves, and girls in colorful, spangly sweaters, some with lit Christmas lights.
But the very best of all was my PT therapist, Brian. He was dressed in a "Christmas Story" pink bunny onesie like Ralphie got from his Aunt Clara...it was hilarious!

I gave my PT a gift card to a local restaurant when I was in therapy for 12 weeks with her. She was a lifesaver as far as I was concerned. I was so miserable when I started there, couldn't drive, couldn't shop, couldn't read and couldn't even sleep without pain. After her doing her magic, I got my life back.

If you like them, why not?

It's also the Christmas season so dont know if I should get a gift or just say thank you for all your help and leave it at that. Thanks for your opinion.
Whenever I've completed PT or OT, I've given my therapist a Visa gift card.

To my way of thinking, I would never give stuff to someone I did not know very well; well enough to have been in their home or know what they like.
I would never burden anyone with a plant unless they have plants in their house and want them.
My tactic is a thank you note. If I feel a gift is needed, I include a gift card and a note saying thank you and here's a "cup of coffee"; let me buy you lunch," "enjoy some cold tea on me this summer," or something like that often.
To me that sort of card and note says thanks without making it uncomfortable, expensive, or awkward. And it doesn't put anyone on the spot like stuff they don't eat, things they won't use, or plants and things that need to be displayed or maintained.

I don't have any therapists now. But do have a fantastic group of nurses that take care of the patients in my oncologist's office. I call them our angels. Right now I'm not undergoing any cancer treatments, but do have to go in to them to have blood drawn and to have my port flushed out. There are about 30 folks working in that office. Since I've been going there so long, we are on a first name basis....which is sort of nice. They always welcome you with a smile and ask how you are doing..... Have always made a Christmas present of something edible.....they go to the lunch room when they can. This year I got them a large container of 3 different kinds of popcorn. And I always remember them on Nurse's Day. I have a nickname for one ,,,,, "Goldie Locks"..... She has long blonde curly hair, and is as cute as she is sweet.

I think giving some small, really nothing gift cheapens the profession. PT's have had extensive education 4 years undergrad +3 more in PT school. A nice card with thanks is appropriate.
