If it is for s child that you dont really know I would stay away from anything frozen or girly. My niece is s tomboy. Never plays dress up or with dolls or any girl toys.

 

i like the idea of sidewalk chalk or some coloring books.

Books and more books along with a library card application. I would give musical instruments (recorders, gourds, tambourine, etc.), toys such as shape puzzles, wooden toys, e.g. autos, trains and airplanes, and clocks.  The Melissa and Doug site has wonderful offerings and they are often on Zulily and Rue La La .

Thank you all so much for the recommendations!  It seems like coloring books and reading books are the things most mentioned, so I think I'll do one of each.  Thanks again!!
