Let's just say that no matter what gift @ScrapHappy gave it will never be acceptable. The mother in law has a new French refridgerator and it could hold a COW.
If the son had picked out the gift instead of @ScrapHappy it would have been Oh Happy Day!! Let the Angels sing!!

This sounds like the same box that I ordered. While it comes in a rather large Styrofoam cooler, the food is packaged in individual vacuum packs that are small. Unless her mother in law keeps her freezer packed she most likely could have found space too store the food.
We had the steaks on new Years Eve and they were excellent. Also enjoyed the potatoes and the apple tarts. Unless the recipient is a vegetarian or vegan, I can't imagine why she wouldn't appreciate this gift. It was a very thoughtful gift and I imagine that whatever you give her she will find something to complain about.

Just because you liked it doesn't mean someone else would.
I'm certain if her MIL were vegan she wouldn't have sent this gift ithe first place.

Those were BIRTHDAY gifts....
@DottieBlue No, they were not birthday gifts. The gifts represented J as King (gold), his divinity (frankincense) and his mortality (myrhh).
Back to regular programming.
No response needed, either.

I cannot believe -well, yes I can - that this issue is still being discussed. Yes, I know-yet here I am.
My biggest take-away is that the OP seemed to have been handed the task of buying her MIL her Christmas gift.
As others have said, let the husband and BIL do the shopping and just what has happened all the years before??
Yikes. Half that meat could have been cooked and consumed by now.

A month later I came across this thread...oh dear. My MIL would do the same thing so everytime it was her birthday/Christmas I shuttered. She passed this past summer, and sad to say no one shed a tear. MILs have a way of causing drama and friction, it's their nature (but some are loving, certainly). Think as I did... "this person is not worth ruining my day for...." Hope 2023 brings you peace!
