Ghostbusters - new version

[ Edited ]

Since talking about the original is  against the rules here (cats & dogs living together!), how do you feel about the new one that will be coming out?  It will have new ghostbusters in the form of women Smiley Happy  Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig are part of the cast.  The writing credits seem to include Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, which means he had to have been working on this prior to his death.

I enjoy the Ghostbusters movies and am interested in seeing if the new one will hold up.   Melissa is doing pretty good with Spy and I really enjoy Kirsten Wiig - her SNL with the Penelope character is fantastic!  No matter what the story or event, she always one-ups.

I have mixed feelings because I loved the chemistry between Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis and Hudson.  Can it be replicated?   What do you think?

I don't really know what to think.  I agree about the chemistry with the original cast and I find with remakes fairly or not I look for that same kind of chemistry to legitimize, for lack of a better word, the new cast.

Perhaps the approach will be different enough to stand on its own without invoking thoughts of oh, they never would have done that or they would have done this.

I think the new version and actors sound good.    Looking forward to seeing it.

I really liked the original "Ghostsbusters" movies, especially the first one.

The female version may be entertaining but it cannot be anything like the original two Ghostbuster movies.  I would not consider it to be a sequel.

I agree.   It needs to stand on it's own.   I think it has a good chance.

Marp, I hope so.  I hope that they are able to put together a film that just shows that Ghostbusting is a profession and the original guys retired, and the storyline is unique to hold its own.

I did love the reboot of Star Trek and also felt that George Miller did a fantastic job with the last Mad Max movie (that wasn't a reboot, but a continuation of the series...Max is just a legendary archetype, so he can look different) and am looking forward to the new Star Wars. It really does depends on the trifecia - writing, directing and acting.   The director did Bridesmaids & Spy, so he seems to be familar with comedy.

Re: Ghostbusters - new version

Normally I am not a big fan of reboots but I think this one could work.  I love the Ghostbusters franchise but I think re-working it with female cast members could open up new comedy areas that the gentlemen would not have been able to do.

I hope it flies, I'd like to see it!

This one I look forward to seeing... One of my favorites is the original Ghostbusters..  This puts a different spin on it and Kristin Wiig is wonderful..  Loved Bridesmaids.

Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, Kate McKinnon and Melissa McCarthy cast in the remake of "Ghostbusters."

I'll wait to read the reviews first.

Sometimes remakes aren't the same with a different cast .

Re: Ghostbusters - new version

We will definitely go see the new Ghostbusters movie. I am looking forward to it. However, I don't think it will ever compare to the original Ghostbusters movies!

Ghotstbusters happens to be my sons favorite movie to date. Haha. He still (in his 30's!) has the entire Ghostbuster script memorized, because he watched it so much.

And oh- PS) Chris Hemsworth is supposedly the secretary? Added bonus! :-)
