Yes!  Our son's 100+ year old house in San Antonio has the ghosts of the builders of the house.  I have seen the long skirt of the Mrs flow from the foyer into the dining room.  Occasionally, cigar smoke can be smelled (and no one smokes).  Our adult grandson and our adult niece were alone in the house, yucking it up, and were told SHHHHH.  It freaked our grandson so much that he stays in a hotel when he comes to visit his father.

Our best friend's place in Northern Wisconsin is haunted.  I once went upstairs to get something from the room we were staying in.   At the top of the stairs, I glanced toward the bathroom and saw an older gentleman with white hair standing in there.  I said "hi, Al" and kept walking, but suddenly remembered Al was down at the boathouse.  Al is an older gentleman with white hair.

@MamaWick   Just wondering, did you or does your son have any pets in the house?

I would be curious how they do or do not react to these things.

In the past, I had a Westie that would sit at the top of the stairs in the dead of night and growl.  It was frightening.

Yes!!! Their dog Roo, and our dog Willow react, get weird, and stare at nothing. Neither growls or barks, but they are reacting to something.

Stray, I am not a bit psychic but I have felt that sense of horror at two sites:  at the Alamo, which was next to a hotel I was staying at, I felt icy horror while looking out one of the windows, and found later that the room was where many of the US fighters met their death.

Some years later, I had taken some visitors to the Museum of London, and was returning home alone (the viisitors were going back on a different subway) and was waiting for a stop light at a busy intersection about a block from the museum.  Same cold shudder I had felt at the Alamo.  I looked it up online when I got home....it was now an intersection in SE London, but back in the day had been a site of public executions.

Witches and heretics had been burned near there in the 1500s-1600s, and felons had been hanged in that very spot throughout  the 1700s.   Emily Dickinson has a poem in which she talks of feeling "zero at the bone."  That's what the feeling was for me....

Re: Ghost Sightings -- Part 2

Love these ghost threads. Thank you!
I told a couple of my past experiences in a different thread. But recently I moved in with my elderly father to take care of him. From the first week I lived in his house, I would occasionally get a whiff of a flowery perfume. Dad said he didn't smell it, and it never lasted more than a minute or two. It's not the perfume my late mother wore. I don't know who it is (haha), but I think some lady's spirit visits Dad's house and me once in a while. I've never smelled it at my own house so believe "she" is connected to Dad and his house somehow.

Ok ... a couple of my experiences here

When I was a young teen and just about to fall off to sleep, I awakened with a startle to see the "devil" (horns and all) standing gazing at me evilly in the doorway of my room.

That spectre has stayed with me my entire life although I try not to think about it and I don't talk about it. Shudder

A friend of mine grew up in Connecticut in a historically preserved house. In college, she had me convinced that the Ouija board was really operated by Satan. I never believed that and always attributed what it spelled out to HER moving it.

She had stories of seeing ghosts at friend s homes that curled my toes... but she was talented at storytelling.

I did not see a ghost, but I believe my deceased mother was in contact with me.

When she passed away many years ago I received the phone call from my step-father telling me she had passed away at 6:10 p.m.  For the following two years after her death, exactly at 6:10 p.m. my phone rang, the called I.D. showed "unknown caller" and when I answered the phone no one was there.  I really believe that was my mom trying to be in touch with me.

I had a somewhat similar incident.  My mother always wore Chantilly and only on special occasions or on Sundays when we went to church.  About a month after my mother passed away I woke up at 3:00 a.m. smelling Chantilly.  I would like to think it was her checking to see if I was alright now that both of my parents were gone.  I wasn't sure if it was her or not but I told her I was OK and the scent slowly faded away.  I should also add that I was with her in the hospital when she passed and she was pronounced dead at 3:00 a.m.  💔

My husband grew up in a house that was over 100 years old and a female presence occupied the house for many years though it eventually left. My in-laws were used to it but my husband and his siblings never got used to it. A woman died in the home and they seem to think it was her spirit but who knows.

A friend told me when she was in high school she and a classmate decided to ditch school one day and hung out in an old 2 story abandon home in their neighborhood, they went upstairs to spend the day looking out of one of the  bedroom windows just to watch the cute neighborhood guys walking by, my friend looked over her shoulder and saw a ghost of an old woman staring at them, she looked over at her friend and said do you see her too, she nodded.  They both ran out of the house so fast and never set foot in that house again.

Re: Ghost Sightings -- Part 2

My father died young (at home) from an aggressive form of cancer. My mom claimed to see him around the house and would say she was talking to him. My mother comes from a line of stregas, so it wasn't unusual for her to have sightings of ghosts in people's houses, including ours.

After my father died, my mother and sister went to stay with some relatives. She asked a neighbor to dog sit and then asked me to stop in every few days. I was a little nervous because I hadn't been in their house alone since he died.

When I walked in, all I could smell was his aftershave. The house felt really warm and loving, so I hung out the entire afternoon.

When I told my mother about the aftershave and hanging out, she said, "Well of course, why would your father try to make you uncomfortable or scare you?"

I was walking with my granddaughter who was a baby at the time back and forth in the family room and someone laid their hand on the back my shoulder so firmly it made me stop. I was the only person home.  I think it was my mom, she had passed three years earlier. My mom passed on the 11th, I often see the time 11:11 on the clock.  It's always a reminder of her, even after 21 years.  I have never seen anything though.
