Re: Getting Up Early for Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral Service

It was inspiring. The British never disappoint. The processions, the music, and the silence of the thousands along the way could not have been improved upon. All the flowers, the soldiers in their red coats, the tradition...

Re: Getting Up Early for Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral Service

BBC just interviewed 2 Canadian Mounted Police. They said they flew their horses in last week. So they had a week to get the horses acclimated. And the horses were picked for the trip because of their temperament.

Glad to see the Countries in the United Kingdom Commonwealth were part of the funeral procession.

I can't help think of the times in the past I've set my alarm, starting when I was young for the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, through Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, and later on to the weddings of Princes  William and Harry.

In the past these have been happy times. For the weddings of the younger princes, DD and I would have tea and scones.

This is not a happy time, and DD has to work, but I feel honored to, in a way, attend this service.

Who else is getting up early to watch this live?

In this picture of the long drive at Windsor, everyone sees Queen Elizabeth's horse.  My point in posting this is the carpet of flowers lining either side of the long drive.  These are the flowers that were placed outside the gates and brought inside the gates to line the long drive and several other areas.  People were asked to remove the cellophane before placing the flowers outside the gate.  Beautiful carpet!FdBv4VFWIAAeyxZ.jpg

@ChiliPepper and @Somertime

Look at the BEAUTIFUL Coat on Emma. They were both well loved.

The Queen was quite proud of her horses. She attended a local horse show every year. And got a big kick when her horse won. She would proudly show the rosettes, if she won.

Re: Getting Up Early for Queen Elizabeth’s Funeral Service

[ Edited ]

I set my alarm for 3 a.m. as I have in the past to watch the royal weddings, starting with Diana and Charles and then their children. I did the same for the funeral of Diana as well. Unfortunately, I just could not fall asleep and by the time I was drowsy, it was 2 a.m. I ended up just getting up and making some toast and coffee and watched the overnight pre funeral programming on BBC World News. So for me, I pulled an all nighter. This historical experience is most likely a once in a lifetime event for me and I would not have missed it.

I was just in awe to watch the tradition and pageantry as it unfolded. No one does it like the British. The animal lover in me was moved to tears to see the queen's horse and Corgis there to pay their last respects  to the queen.
I'll also admit to shedding a few tears at the Windsor committal service. I was particularly moved by the ceremony to remove the  queen's crown, orb and scepter and the lowering of her coffin as the lone piper's lament echoed through the chapel. The bagpipes gets me every time, I can just feel my Scottish dna firing up when I listen to them.
All in all, I thought it was a beautiful thank you to the queen for her lifelong dedication and service to crown and country.

I got an email I think from People stating how Charlotte is very much in the know on Royal Protocol. She corrects both her older and younger brother's behavior on what is proper, I bet Charlotte rules the roost!

@Jordan2 - I've noticed this too! It's so cute! She corrects George all of the time. Those inside today said she told him, "You have to bow," at one point. I noticed when the cameras were on the two children George frequently looked at her for confirmation before he did something! I've seen her do this in the past too.

I agree that Charlotte probably calls the shots. I read though that Louis ignores her!  That may change as they get older.

Those children are just adorable. For two of them to participate today and seem to make no mistake is amazing. Kate and William are doing a great job!
