Re: Getting Ambushed at the Grocery Store

They most often do this on Saturdays, so the solution is simple. If you can avoid it, don't grocery shop on Saturdays. Ever since I retired, I don't set foot in stores on Saturdays.

Re: Getting Ambushed at the Grocery Store

I really don't go into grocery stores often but I know exactly what you mean. I just don't see at as a problem. I just walk by them and go about my business. I don't feel that I have to stop at their tables, speak with them or make empty promises. I sure don't have to buy whatever they are selling or contribute to whatever cause they are raising money for.

I am bushed after dealing with all of them.

I just smile and say, "No, Thank You", if I'm not interested or if I don't have money on me at the time. If someone persists, I use the broken record technique....I just keep politely repeating my original refusal.

Re: Getting Ambushed at the Grocery Store

Yea, it's annoying, as is having the checker ask if I want to donate to the stores chosen charity, but I usually find that the kids outside, like the checker, backs off quickly when I nicely say I'm not interested. I'd prefer they weren't there, just as I'd prefer they didn't ask, but I guess it is what it is.

That's pretty much what I do. I also don't slow down, I keep it moving past them.

Re: Getting Ambushed at the Grocery Store

In my area the stores have a big problem with this, because the ordinances covering this type of thing state the store *can't prevent it* if it's so many feet from the front door. Unless organizations are rightinfront of the business's door way, accosting people as they grab a cart, the store can't make them disappear. They set up shop on "public" walkways within a shopping center, or in the parking lot where you have to go by them. Stores put up huge signs in the parking lots that basically say they're helpless in the face of the law/ordinance as written, and that the stores don't wan them there. It gets very bad indeed when someone or other wants to get a measure on the state ballot or fund-raise.

That's a very strange ordinance because if they're in a shopping center, they're still trespassing on private property. The owner of the property, whether it be the store or another owner, should have the right to boot trespassers.

This has never happened to me, so far.
