Re: Get them while you can, The factory has closed.

I only like the pink ones - the rest taste like soap!

Saw plenty of them yesterday at the Dollar Tree and again today at a hardware store. I think there are still plenty to be found so I will leave them on the shelves of those of you who like them.

@lovesrecess  Thanks for this.  I still intend to pick up a few before they're gone forever.  I suppose I can squirrel them away and they'd still be good years from now.

I remember the nuns using these for First Communion practice, since they were about the size of the host. You just had to make sure you didn’t try swallowing one right after they put it in your mouth, otherwise you became the entertainment for that day’s practice. Smiley Happy

I was just getting ready to post the same thing.     I remember during our First Communion practice the priest gave all of us a Necco Wafer to simulate receiving the host.

I never cared for them but years later when I would see them in stores that memory always came back to me.

NECCO also made the Valentine's Conversation Hearts which, if you think about it, are probably the same recipe as the Wafers.  Now, other companies, like Brach's, also make conversation hearts, though I don't think the others are as good.

Good isn't a word I associate with those wafers OR the hearts. . . Woman Frustrated

We practiced for our First Holy Communion using Necco Wafers.

I haven’t had these in a very long time. I do like them though, but only the chocolate ones. I won’t miss them when they’re gone. But I would like a couple chocolate ones for old times sake.

I always liked the chocolate and the licorice and the Pepto Bismol pink. The fruity ones were terrible!

Haven't had one in years, but they were a favorite.  Living out the USA, there were many American goodies that were not available to us.  Once a year, my family would make a trip to the "states" and we would stock up on several items we loved.  We always bought several boxes of Necco wafers!  We also bought Tootsie rolls. marshmallow cream, licorice and other goodies.

I loved the green wafers!!  Will try to get some before they are all really gone....

hi @corita - you can have all my green wafers!! I never ate them, so they're all yours. Now I just have to find them Woman LOL

My grandmother used to work in the factory (I think it is in Charlestown, MA, near Bunker Hill) in Boston, during the Depression.

They were first produced for soldiers during the Civil War, as they were considered "indestructable" (even by teeth, sometimes).

I liked all the flavors except the Clove.  Vermont Country Story has "all chocolate" Necco wafers, or it used to.  Haven't had them for a long time.

What I miss are old-style Spearmint Leaves--the lookalikes today are too sweet!
