Re: Gave In and Turned on the Heat

I am in the desert. Have not turned the heat on since we moved here. On occasion, we might use the fireplace on a cool morning. I do not miss Minnesota winters in the least. I was convinced to move a few years ago when the thermometer read -53 degrees. Tipped me over and I have never looked back!

Re: Gave In and Turned on the Heat

I had one window cracked all day yesterday but then closed it before I went to bed. I froze all night and got up this morning and reluctantly turned on the heat.

Ours isn't on yet.  The temps in upper SC are in the 70's and going into the 40's for the next few nights.  We will turn the heat on for the older dogs.  The wood floors tend to be cold and we try to keep things comfortable for them.  Of course the comfy throws are coming out too.

We live in upstate SC, and it was surely cold this morning!  I am sitting here at the breakfast counter with my little space heater on my legs as I type this!  Surely strange after thinking back to all the heat & humidity we suffered with not too long ago!

Re: Gave In and Turned on the Heat

It's in the 80's and 90's. Maybe a little heat between December and February.

Re: Gave In and Turned on the Heat

I live in N. WI. and many snowbirds have flown South. My neighbors wait until after the holidays to travel. I know a lot of people have turned on their furnaces but I use my Duraflame heater which takes the chill off in the living room for just me. I will turn on the furnace soon as we are running below average temps in 50s instead of 60s and patchy frost. I hold off  as long as I can for some stubbirn reason. My dog gets hot and although a rescue that came here from TX., seems to loves the cold and he has short hair.

I was so chilly lastnight that I had two Berkshire blankets on. We checked the forecast this morning and it's not going to get above 60* all week. DH turned in the heat. It feels a little early, but oh well.

On the other hand, our dog loves being out on cool, crisp fall mornings. He's getting old and slowing down, but then he gets outside and a spark of puppy comes out. 🍁🌻🎃🐾

I get it. I rarely turn on the heat before November but I had it on for a little bit this week too.

Yesterday, I woke to 39 degrees and we barely made it to 52. It's 7:30 and 41 degrees now.

My dog is a fair weather dog. He loves being outside but I usually have to nudge him out if it's snowing. I plow a path in the yard so it's easier for him to get where he wants to go as snow piles up.

@CalminHeart we make a path and shovel out "his space" too. When the snow is too deep, it's a problem.  But I do enjoy watching him romp through it.

Re: Gave In and Turned on the Heat

Nope. Haven’t had to turn on the heat yet. It is only the beginning of October! In the 60’s and lower this week. Maybe later in the month it will be turned on, but not yet. Still pleasant temps out.

Re: Gave In and Turned on the Heat

Turned ours on last night ... it's hard to argue with 46 degrees.
