Gas has gone up about 20 cents in upstate NY.

New York has gouging laws - prices can't be raised past a certain point.

just what is a "certain point?"

NY already is the 3rd highest when it comes to taxing the gasoline you purchase.

@sunshine45@terrier3Good question.

Our state has gouging laws, too.  I don't know why it's assumed that NY gas prices will not rise. Gouging is one thing; rising prices due to economics is quite another.

Gas stations charging more than market demand can be reported here, too.

 So terrier-just what IS that certain point?

I'm not sure what that point is...but our State AG has issued a warning and directed us to where to report gouging. After Sandy, the state collected over 300K from gas stations who took advantage of the situation. I didn't post that prices wouldn't rise - they have as I wrote...just not to the point where businesses take advantage of people.

Re: highest taxes on gas...I have no problem if the money raised goes to good roads and other protections for our residents. There are strict laws here re: building in wetlands...I'd rather live here than somewhere where nothing is regulated and no one warns people about investing in homes that could bve flooded out!

30 something states have anti-gouging laws after a disaster. My state has them as well. I think any of us that live in states that have suffered a major catastrophe have seen what can happen to prices for basic essentials in the after math.

I would like to respectfully suggest/request that we not turn this thread or this situation into a "my state is better than yours" debate. Most of us have great pride in the state we live in, and that is probably as it should be. However, many states have also been recepients of the generosity of the nation as a whole in disaster aftermaths, and that is as it should be as well. We are one. Let's focus our energy on uniting and supporting, please.

@catchersmom

no one is turning this thread into a "my state is better than yours" thread.

not even sure just why you brought it up?

@thyme Patty

Dallas was out at most gas stations, but for only about 36 hours.

@terrier3  So your state isn't doing anything different.  We have the same laws and the links to report any gouging, be it gas, groceries, etc.

Most states do.
