I remember back when we bought our first car (1963).

Gas was about 25 cents a gallon and if you filled up you got 10x blue chip stamps!

@ALRATIBA   I remember those days well!! Even the Blue Stamps. My parents had given me a 1963 Olds Cutless F-85 convertible for my 16th birthday. My friends and I would cruise around all evening and we'd all chip in for $1 worth of gas (25 cents each). That got us to school and where ever anybody needed to go for the following week!

ETA: Seems impossible to drive a V-8 automatic for $1 per week, doesn't? We were speed demons back in the day! Lincoln and Omaha were our go-to cruise places; sometimes some of the small towns nearby. Mom said to "Keep adding up the mileage so she knew we weren't parked anywhere!"

We did as I was advised. Smiley Wink  And the boys followed us.

Money screams; wealth whispers.

$2.96 in Oklahoma City according to the internet.  We don't fill up often enough any more to remember.

Look up gas tax by state and federal gas tax and it will explain some of the differences, plus taxes for enviornmental issues and such.

Along the Big Sur Coast is a little bend in the road in an area called Gorda. Gas there today is $7.59 for regular unleaded. Literally highway robbery. Many tourists get caught off guard with how isolated that area is and panic and pay the price. In my town nearby gas is averaging $4.30. A weeks worth of groceries for me equals one gas fill-up.

I just got home from filling up.  $3.39 for regular on the other side of the Atlanta suburbs from @Laura14 .

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?
