I know this sounds ridiculous, but I think I'd love to be paying your gas prices .... here in CA it's probably the highest in the country.

I just paid $5.59 a gallon for regular!!

(Feel any better?)

Yikes!  We just went over the $4.00 number this week.

We have a neighbor who still drives the first Prius they offered..forgot what model year that was. She loves it, but she is retired and doesn't drive very much. DH filled up his tank today at Costco, always the cheapest price. Cost him $86 to get 3/4 of a tank of regular. We are driving to our granddaughter's HS graduation next week....about 275 miles....I shudder to think how much more gas will be in just a week. It shot up about a dime for regular here in the last two days.
My nephew just landed a new job at a big company. He has to travel about forty miles each way to the company HQ everyday for a month. He has a year-old VW Passat. Nice car.....but it uses diesel. His dad is having to help with gas until he gets his first paycheck. $7.50 a gallon.

@Porcelain  Uh I see just people reporting what they are paying.  And it's interesting.  No, we can't really help each other.  But yes helps to vent.  And a buying forum is tied to the economy and gas purchase is part of the economy.  Some people have to pick up packages and mail packages so they are using gas.  I'm interested in knowing what others are paying.  And no one has named anyone responsible.  As I have stated the prices do involve alot more that supply vs demand.  Alot of of global and national things play a part in pricing.  And that includes QVCs items that they sell.  And yeah, the higher prices of everything is something people are interested in. Political?  yeah that's one side of it.  But again there's a lot of other things that play a part. As long as no one gets angry about it, I don't have a problem with this thread.

I'm all about solutions. That interests me. What do you want to do to fix things? Or do you see us as helpless? Bringing up a problem over and over again, in excruciating detail, but never any possible solutions, is something only ineffective people do.

What's wonderful is that employment is great and many people are making a lot of money these days. Issues like the price of gas and eggs don't impact them. That only impacts those who are not making enough money on their own to adapt to change. It's harsh Darwinism. People who assumed they would be comfortable on a fixed income are realizing they need to find a side gig, even late in life. And even social security and medicare may go away very soon. They are not guaranteed. We will each have to fend for ourselves.

It's a good time to make sure you are financially stable for the future, personally. That means having way more than enough money and assets. Because the world is not going to get MORE stable anytime soon. We are in a massive season of unimaginable change. You can only create safety and stability for yourself. You can't wait for the powers that be to do it for you. No one is coming to rescue us from the problems we've created for ourselves.

Exactly where is my 85 year old mother going to go for one of these "side gigs"?  Her friend is in worse financial position, maybe you can find one for her too

Someday, when scientists discover the center of the Universe....some people will be disappointed it is not them.

Re: Gas Prices Today

[ Edited ]

Two members of our family have Teslas. Two are on the waiting list for a Rivian. I know nothing about the Rivian other than it is all electric. I will buy an electric car if they are affordable, but never if I feel forced to buy one. It does take electricity to charge them, and a lot of it. My relatives have both had their Teslas for over a year. Only problem was during our bad freeze and power was out for days. Neither of them could charge their batteries and one charger didn't withstand the freezing temps. Replacing the  panel was really expensive. They are both really into solar everything....getting roof panels and have electric mowers, etc. I am just observing all of the kinks they are dealing with and will learn from them. They are young and wealthy enough to be willing Guinea pigs. I am neither.  Not sure all electric vehicles are ready for prime time just yet. Really unfair for Nordstrom to move handicapped parking spaces much farther from the store and replace the closer spots with signs that say " for EV only". Grrrrr!

I think most of the country will reach current California prices eventually.  By then California will be off the charts high.

I don't see how it will come down with things as they are now, in fact, I think it's here to stay and the message is we just need to "get used to it" along with everything else that is going up. Still not sure why leases are being extended or being ended.  I've played along too long.
