Re  Garrison Keillor: I've never liked him, and being a Minnesotan that is tantamount to being a traitor. He is so unattractive to begin with, well maybe that's why he has to resort to harrassing behavior.

Re: Women harrassers: Of course there are women who do exactly the same thing, esp if they are in power. Just look at all those female teachers who seduce 8th and 9th grade students.

For some obscure reason, women are seen aa better, higher, more ethical, etc. etc. than men. In my mind, they are NO different. They just don't have the reins of power -- yet. When they do, watch out.

Harassment often contains an element of force, or just out and out force.  Most women aren't able to physically pull that off.  In other ways, yes.

This is why there can be no solution anytime soon.  So many people don't even understand the issues.  Harrassment doesn't to involve physical contact or force.  It includes verbal assaults or telling dirty jokes stories with secksual content in the workplace or looking at porn on computers when others in the workplace can see it, it includes using profanity in the workplace.  It's also pressuring someone into a date or sekshual contact.  There is a difference between harrassment and sekshual assault.

Yes, I know @chrystaltree.  In fact. CA is one of the few states to detail what sexual harassment is, legally.  I posted it the other day.

To be clear, I didn't say it HAD TO contain an element of force, but the truth is some of the women recently complaining were raped.

I only watched his show a couple of times. I kept thinking what am I missing?. People just seemed to think he was wonderful

He show wasn't anything either , as far as I was concerned

I seen folksy done so much better. Jonathon Winters he ain't!

Back when he was just getting started and his radio show was new, I had a well-educated professional roommate wise to the ways of the big city (and one would think, con jobs) who absolutely loved him. She would literally never miss a single broadcast. I tried to listen a few times but found the whole thing very boring, as in put you to sleep boring. I certainly “got” it, but it was not to my humor tastes at all.

I adored Jonathan Winters.

A partial list of what constitutes sexual harassment in CA:

What is sexual harassment?

State regulations define sexual harassment as unwanted sexual advances, or visual, verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature. This definition includes many forms of offensive behavior and includes gender-based harassment of a person of the same sex as the harasser. The following is a partial list of prohibited behavior:

  • Visual conduct: leering, making sexual gestures, displaying of sexually suggestive objects or pictures, cartoons or posters.
  • Verbal conduct: making or using derogatory comments, epithets, slurs and jokes. Verbal abuse of a sexual nature, graphic verbal commentaries about an individual’s body, sexually degrading words used to describe an individual.
  • Physical conduct: touching, assault, impeding or blocking movements.
  • Offering employment benefits in exchange for sexual favors.
  • Making or threatening retaliatory action after receiving a negative response to sexual advances.

Same here. In order to have been aware of him from early days, one pretty much has to be “elderly” in the eyes of some (whatever that’s supposed to mean, lol) simply due to how long ago he started.

is ‘elderly’ the new negative buzzword these days? Like “ewwww”...?

I don't take glee in any of these situations.  As the mom of 3 adult daughters, over the years I've had to deal first hand with this in our family.

First and foremost (and especially because I know what these woman are going through and have gone through) my heart and understanding goes out to them.

But (and maybe this is controversial) it also goes out to the FAMILIES and friends and co-workers of these accused people.  I'm sure they are also going through a very difficult time.

Let us not forget many of these people have children, wives/husbands and so on.  They are also suffering.

So, I would say, again, there are no winners in these situations.

I think support for the spouses and families and those who went through this is what needs to happen.

This is just the beginning.

I've become numb to all of these daily allegations.

I no longer am shocked when every day, someone else has been accused.

In his own words:

The radio personality later told the Star Tribune that he was not, in general, physically demonstrative, and that the incident that led to his firing involved touching a woman's bare skin. "I meant to pat her back after she told me about her unhappiness and her shirt was open and my hand went up it about six inches," he said. "She recoiled. I apologized."

Seriously, is the man's appearance relevant somehow?

Sexual predators come in all manner of looks. As do harassers.
