Re: Garlic ~ thumbs up or down?

Up. If a recipe calls for one clove of garlic, I'll probably add 2.

Thumbs down...

A little goes a long way and when I see these recipes that call for clove after clove of it, I just know right away they're non-starters...

Thumbs down for me.  Can't stand the taste or smell.  It gives me an upset stomach.

Me too!  Can't stand the smell of garlic nor onion! It makes it hard to go out to eat...everyone cooks with those two ingredients.

Have had to leave Italian restaurants because of the strong garlic smell!   I pick the raw  onion out of salsa.

Oh, my, its a huge thumbs up.

I buy fresh organic ginger and garlic at our farmer's market. Couldn't live with out either.

Re: Garlic ~ thumbs up or down?

Thumbs down from me. If it's subtle I'm okay with it, but it's rarely if ever subtle in my experience (I personally cook with it VERY rarely) in prepared or restaurant foods. If it "tastes garlic-y" it ruins the dish for me.

Onions, OTOH, I can't live without. I LOVE onions in any way, shape or form. But garlic? Nooooo...

Irony? I live about 23 miles from The Garlic Capital of the World. Before I moved here, when I came on vacations I bought braids of fresh garlic to take back and give to my boss, who was a garlic fiend. It always stunk up my trunk!

Re: Garlic ~ thumbs up or down?

I say, why bother living if you don't love garlic? :-)

For those who hate it, you might try roasting it. The result is very mellow and delicious even as a spread.

If you are, however, exuding the odor of garlic from your pores, you might be way overdoing it. Personally, I haven't ever encountered that.

There used to be (and may still be) a restaurant in Beverly Hills that was based on garlic. Oh, right, it's called The Stinking Rose. Apparently, the original one was in San Francisco.

Re: Garlic ~ thumbs up or down?

My family loves garlic, and onions; I use them in cooking pretty much every day.   In mid December I had 100 lbs of onions in my garage; today there's about 15 lbs left out there.

I do love garlic, I like to cook with it.  But sparingly, not in everything.
