The two products are sold separately.  The smaller one will be Gen 2.  Get the larger one.  It sounds so much better for music.  They do the exact same thing but it sounds better.

Can't wait to hear how you like it.  I'd be lost without my personal assistant.  She keeps me on track (g)

"Why is Google discontinuing Nest?

The tech giant in its blog stated that the products were being discontinued owing to challenges related to updating them. Tech giant Google has announced that it will discontinue support for a host of its home products including Dropcam, Nest Secure, and Works with Nest."

Hi @monicakm

Finally the frenzy died down on the Google website.

Say, is this something I need before I buy the larger Nest?

It looks like it does some things the larger Nest does, plus offers VIDEO (as on YouTube)

~~~~~~~~~~   From Google Website:  ~~~~~~~~~
"Meet the new Nest Hub, the center of your helpful home."
"Entertainment made easy. Catch up on Netflix shows, watch YouTube videos, listen to music on the enhanced speaker, and more."
"Control your smart home. With just a tap – or your voice – control thousands of compatible smart devices from one central display"
Keep your family connected. Nest Hub helps with your busy home. See your calendar and create reminders and to-dos.
Helps you wind down and wake up. Wind down to soothing sounds at bedtime and wake up gently to a Sunrise Alarm.
Entertainment made easy.
Catch up on Netflix shows, watch YouTube videos, listen to music on the enhanced speaker, relive your favorite Google Photos, and more.
Keep listening, from room to room. The enhanced speaker delivers 50% more bass than the original Nest Hub.7 Create groups with other Nest speakers and displays for brilliant sound in every room
@monicakm
Is this a replacement to the "Nest Audio?"  (larger hockeypuck)   OR
is this something i additionally need to also hang off, along with the Nest Audio?"
This looks like   Store.Google   is  selling this 4pc  Package Deal, $345 ..
Is this a complete set that I need, ultimately?
"Pay $343.97 or $28.66/month
2 Nest Audio speakers + Nest Hub Max + Chromecast with Google TV
Play music on Nest Audio. Stream movies on your TV with Chromecast.2 And listen and watch on Nest Hub Max."  (from  Store.Google website)
@monicakm   apologize for all the above.. on & on.  Am on Immune disablity relapse, at the moment, but am trying to keep going, & push thru, (which probably isnt wise of me).
Re: Gadgets - Unique, Unusual or Useful -U noticed
I'll have to do some investigating tomorrow. A couple of weeks ago I was reading some chatter about Google ending support for it's Nest devices. I didn't really think much of it. Now it looks like that is actually happening. I don't know if they are ending the smart home line altogether or if they have new products they are pushing out. I didn't see anything at CES earlier this year. Google is known for releasing products and then dropping support for them. I haven't found that to be totally accurate.  I love all my Google products and have had them from the very beginning in the fall of 2016. They are all still getting updates . If they are ending their smart home line, I will be devastated 😩  are you getting this info on the Google support website? I'm going there now to nose around. That's where I used to "work for free". I hope the moderator that used to be there is still there. She'll let me know what's going on. Keeping my fingers crossed they're just getting ready for a new release. If not this is really really bad news.
Sorry you're feeling so bad. From one autoimmune girly to another, take it easy.  Oh by the way that Google Chromecast is an older model. I just bought the newest model this fall for the bedroom TV and my husband installed it for me a few weeks ago. I couldn't do it because the TV is mounted close to the ceiling. The newest model is called Google TV Sreamer 4K or something like that. It's not called Chromecast anymore.
I think I'll read the Google home Reddit forum. I'll get better info there I think then on the Google help forum.
This is the next Generation Chromecast.
The part on the left side of the screen normally sits next to the TV but since my TV is on the wall, DH just has it cradled at the back of the TV amongst all the cabling.
