Not even remotely interested.

I keep my register receipts when I buy groceries (or anything) for several days. I immediately check the receipt against my items as I take them out when I get home from the store. I live on a much smaller income now than previously, so I have to watch every penny. Out of the 6 years I have shopped at my Kroger store, I have found approximately 9 or 10 errors that charged me more. I took the receipt back when I went the next week, and would be reimbursed for their mistakes.
I said all that to say I would probably spend much more time scrutinizing every charge if I had purchased my groceries this new way! And I agree with those who do not like that it would take the place of workers, so I would not like it for that reason.

Sam's has had their version called "Scan and Go" for a while. I have used it only when the checkout lines were very, very long. I've used it maybe three or four times. Sometimes it is faster to go through the cashier it just depends on the situation. You have to check carefully to make sure the "instant savings" coupons are applied. One time I bought a case of yogurt and it did not take off the discount. I had to go back in next time to customer service and show them my receipt (on my iphone). It seemed to irritate CS.
You can not buy alcohol and therefore have to still go through a cashier. This creates another separate paper receipt. You just show them your phone receipt at the door and they scan it.
I prefer to use a cashier, but it is nice to have another option.

Our local Walmart is doing this....I asked about theft they said they would be stopping people before leaving to go thru their bags...random....
If I got stopped I'd be irked....if I am doing the self scanning I would be in a hurry...this would not get me thru the store quicker.
I guess it's similar to Sams Club where you get stopped before leaving and they look over your cart then mark your receipt.
I find it irritating at Sams and won't be using the service at Walmart.
I will say at Walmart when I go there is an issue with not having enough registers open and from what I understand they cannot get help that is reliable.

@puttypiesmom....Walmart has the scanners, they call it Scan and Go

@puttypiesmomwrote:Sounds convenient but I don't want to take my phone out when I'm shopping. Now if the store had portable scanners to hand out to customers I'd be up for that. Also, I will never pay for anything from my phone so another reason why one of their portable scanners would be my choice and then I'd have to pay for it at a self check out lane or one of the others. The guy who stands by at the self check out lane has a portable hand held scanner and often will come by and just scan everything in my cart to be a nice guy. It takes him less time than any checker.
our GIANT has the portable scanners. you can then go to self service checkout with the scanners OR you can hand the scanner to a checkout person.

We don't have this yet. I'd be willing to give it a try. I have issues though when I use the self service registers more often than not. That drives me insane because it takes twice as long than it should.

Huge no for me as it eliminates jobs.
Gotta tell ya, this removal of the human experience from daily life is NOT something I think is good in any way. Nope, I don't.

In our area the checkers are often older people, it would be hard for them to get a job elsewhere.

This is not new, at least where I shop. Several stores near me have had this for a few years.
I only did it once a couple of years ago. I'm a creature of habit and more comfortable with what I'm used to, so I prefer shopping the old-fashioned way. (I rarely use self-checkouts either, for several reasons.)
But I see people using the scanners and bagging as they go all the time, and it seems to work well. It used to look kind of odd to me, but now I barely notice. I have friends who do it all the time, love it, and have never had a problem.
