GRABBING LUNCH AT WARNER BROTHERS STUDIO

Wyatt Duncan, who seems to collect vintage film and theatrical tidbits, tweeted out this fun little artifact of history--  the Warner Brothers menu at their studio cafe, in 1941.

Among other things, please note the prices.  Wonder if Bette Davis ever sprang for the 15 cent a la carte carrot, clam or tomato juice?

Oops, they may have had tomato juice, but the third in the trio of "a la carte" juices was "fig",  not tomato.

Carrot, clam, or fig.   Of course.  Preferably over ice...

Those prices in 1941?  They'd be ridiculous by today's standards.

No kidding, @Kachina624 !!   If one looks up a dollar conversion chart with 1941 to today's valuation, those menu prices are kind of high!  Remember, this is a LUNCH menu.  Roast Beef was $14 and change, and cold turkey and potato salad works out to $20.00!!!!    A bottle of PBR was not a bad deal....$2.96 in today's cash.  I don't think they had craft beer back then.

I would love to get a peek at the patrons in that cafe. All those handsome men and beautiful women of old Hollywood years gone by. Clark Cable, Humphrey Bogart.  Mmm.

Ha, @SharkE ,  that made me blink too--  just that combo of carrot, CLAM, and fig juice on the menu together.  Blech. They used to make "clamato" juice, don't know if that is still a thing.  But even it doesn't sound quite as unappetizing as carrot. clam, and fig, grouped together like that.  Even though you didn't drink them together.

Me too, @Desert Lily  and  @MoJoV !   The idea of the legendary studio commissary, where people like Greta Garbo and Cary Grant relaxed over lunch--  what a treat to have a peek!

Those specials tho - Canapae of Anchovies, Hot Chicken Liver Sandwich, Hot Dogs with Liberty Cabbage, and Carrots.  Now I know how everyone was so thin back then.
