Was on my way to my Adult Hockey League game last night and I heard this on the John Tesh radio show. I guess this is one of the latest crimes the criminals have latched onto now. Technology is really great, but there are times it can create undesired problems.
Here is the scenario. You go to a Shopping Mall of some other place where there are lots of cars parked. The criminals look at cars and if they see a GPS on the windshield, it will be their 1st target. Anywhere in the car they can see it, they got it. They know easy entry to cars if they have been in this business any length of time.
Now the GPS System is only part of the theft. The BAD GUYS have found that many program "THEIR HOME BASE", which is usually their house. And if you have a garage door opener also? Their fun just begins.
They turn on the GPS and follow the directions right to you home, and if you left the garage door opener? You know the rest. Shopping Malls are not their only targets. Any place where people go that usually takes more that a few minutes are prime targets.
It is suggested you do not leave your GPS System in sight. Lock in your trunk or take it with you into your destination for that day. Another thing they suggest is you program your "Home Base" to somewhere that is close to your real place of living. But, best of all, they suggest to you not even to program this into your GPS at all. Most of us know our way back home without the GPS guiding us.
I found this information to be profound happenstance just driving to your game. I usually listen to CD music, but this night I chose to listen to an "Oldies" radio station, and just happened to catch this on the John Tesh part of the program.
Criminals always seem to find a way to get things for free. The GPS is only small potatoes to them. It's the key to the gate to bigger and better things.
John also said that the BAD GUYS will usually look for the most expensive cars as they conclude if you drive a high $$$$ car, there just might be more high $$$ valuable if they can get entry to your home.
That's about it for ya's. Something to think about and/or look into.
