I've always thought Go Red Day never receives the publicity it deserves.......even though heart disease is the #1 killer of women.......
@chrystaltree wrote:Is it always Feb 5th? I wish they would publiciz it in advance, I think more people would participate if they did.

Almost seven years ago, I suffered a massive heart attack. My family was told I might not make the ambulance trip to the hospital, my heart had shut down 85%.
I had no signs of heart trouble, mine was a result of lupus involvement, but the same can happen to any woman. There is a lot of information on Go Red For Women:
https://www.goredforwomen.org/
I thought mine was acid reflux, many of us think that and don't get help. Symptoms can be different for women, and unfortunately, heart attacks are happening more often now in young women, even in their 30s.
Continued good health, Noel7.............

I didn't wear red but I did go to a shoe sale and got a discount for contributing to the American Heart Association. I've had 7 coronaries.

Yes, 7. The Dr;s permanently damaged my heart when they gave me too strong a chemo cocktail. I have a med I take and have a strict food plan that helps. The damage will shorten my life.

First off, I am glad you survived your heart attack. May you have many years of good health.
I dont wear red clothing (Im a redhead and red isnt my best color) but I do wear a heart pin all this month on my coat.
My Mom died of heart disease at 51, her father at age 47 and her mother at 27, all of heart disease. So I try my best to support this cause.

I think it's staggering that heart disease kills more women than all cancers COMBINED. It's time to stop associating heart attacks with men only. Rosie O'Donnell, in her HBO special, talked about her fear of breast cancer, the disease that killed her mother. She ignored her serious heart attack symptoms for a couple of days and almost died as a result. Women's symptoms differ from men's. Not only do we need to be educated but so do our doctors.

Just to clarify, heart attack symptoms for women are frequently different than for men, but they CAN be the same.
I had the classic symptoms we all hear about. It felt like heartburn at first, some serious pain down both arms, breaking out in a sweat (and I don't perspire normally) and vomiting.
However, I had no symptoms of any heart trouble prior to that. It came on out of the blue.
