Boomer ...  Millennial  ...  Gen Z ...

The generational time frame terms are used all the time, but it can be hard to keep them straight, especially when they're being compared.

So .... if you could use a little clarification, here you go ...

GenerationTime FrameAge Now

The Silent Generation

1928-1945

79-96 years old

Baby Boomers

1946-1964

60-78 years old

Gen X

1965-1980

44-59 years old

Millennials

1981-1996

28-43 years old

Gen Z

1997-2012

12-27 years old

Gen Alpha

Early 2010s-2025

0-approx. 11 years old

Re: GENERATIONAL TIME FRAMES

Thank you for this, although I always found it odd I'm in a different generation than my brother who is only 18 months younger than me. I have way more in common with gen x then I do baby boomers.  Interesting cut offs and time lines for sure.

I made the list! 🎉

Gen X has gone missing in so many of these (not that we mind), but it's nice to know the person that put this together can still do the old math. With the new math, we tend to disappear into oblivion.

BTW, is Silent different from Greatest?

@Laura14- Yes. Greatest generation is generally defined as people born from 1901 to 1927.

Re: GENERATIONAL TIME FRAMES

My husband and I are GenXers.  Our son will say "ok, boomer" to my husband when he wants to get at him.  It sure does work!! Smiley LOL

Gen X

but I have seen many different time frames for all the generations.  I was taught in school a generation was 20 years.  Then, it changed.  I guess because people stopped having children so spread out...or some folks who make the lists wanted to be in a different generation lol.

either way, I'm still Gen X
