@Kachina624     What also crossed my mind....was that the Queen is also the head of the Church of England, and I was expecting a much larger appearance of the clergy....ya know, kinda like a pope's funeral ritual.    d

@Desertdi    Just wait until Monday when they have the formal funeral service.  Today was just an escort to the lying in state.

Pearls are tradtional going back a thousand years.

The triple strand of pearls that was her trademark

since 1935. Was given to her by her grandfather

George V. She wore Essie nail polish in Ballet

Slippers a very light pink tone. She always wore

pantyhose. The diamonds and other precious

gems were reserved for events after 6pm.

That never crossed my mind but I assume an outfit or gown that was one of her favorites.

I'm guessing the lead lineing is to keep out the varmints if she is not embalmed.  Her coffin won't go in the ground so no leaching to worry about.

Also, can they "X-Ray through lead these days?  A private family cemetary somewhere where they are really all buried together in peace and quiet is a nice thought.

Depending how much Queen Liz really liked keeping her pocketbook with her It wouldn't suprise me if she DID have one with her.  Could be empty but it's the " I wouldn't feel comfortable without it"  thing i'm thinking of.

May she rest in peace

All the best to King Charles in the future.

And I am wondering what you all will be wearing to the funeral.   I am wearing my usual skirt and top, maybe Birkenstocks.  Lol. The embalming fluid will preserve her fo quite a while. She isn't on display, open casket. But I had thought about the long  period between death and burial too. I think most people did.  I do know before she left Scotland they probably refrigerated her   That's what they do at funeral homes.  The body goes back in cool room after every visitation. They have a room that is cooled.  I don't know about there, but here they do.   So she will be preserved enough until burial.   I thought she was going to be buried below Her husband.  She is going in a crypt?  When I have been to the Abby, Some of the kings were buried beneath the floor

They don't embalm in the UK.

@FiddleDeeDee - Embalming is not required in the U.K.  That doesn't mean it isn't done.  It's a personal choice, unless the body will be repatriated to another country.  Then it is legally required.

ETA:  I just read back through all the posts on this thread and saw you clarified your first comment.

From what I read online it sounds like she is indeed been embalmed.

Also in Britian it sounds like open casket is not done for anyone.

Also not true.  Our family had an open casket, when my mother-in-law's funeral was held.

Many of these things are not hard and fast rules.  They are a personal choice, in most cases.

@shoekitty - "Queen Elizabeth will be buried at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle. Her father, King George VI, and her mother, Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, are already buried there, along with the ashes of her sister, Princess Margaret."

After the service, Philip's casket will be removed from the Royal Vault under the chapel and buried next to hers.

I've wondered if she would be buried in something with the Royal Tartan, since she loved Balmoral so much.  I don't suppose we'll ever know.
