Ft. Myers Beach Florida

We are thinking about taking the kids to Ft. Myers Beach over Spring Break.

We've been told that it is absolutely nuts down there the first week of April. Do any of you know of an area down there that has beach homes or condos (3-4 bedrooms), oceanfront that isn't too crowded?

Or should we avoid Florida all together??

We've gone to Gulf Shores, AL and that is awesome because it's not busy at all, however it can be cool some years.

Any suggestions???
