Re: Front Load Washers/Dryers--Which Ones Do You Like?

I HAD THE LG FRONT LOAD WASHER....KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN SMELLED LIKE  ROTTEN EGGS.  THE REASON IT SMELLED AS EXPLAINED TO ME BY A REPAIR MAN WAS THAT THE TUB SITS.

OUR LG MADE THE WORST SQUEALING SOUND.  APPARENTLY THE BEARING

PROBLEM MADE THE SHAFT OUT OF ALIGNMENT AND IT WAS GOING TO BE

OVER $700.00 TO REPAIR IT.   SO WE ASKED HIM FOR  A RECOMMENDATION.

HE SAID PERSONALLY HE PREFFERED A TOP LOADER.   HE SAID THERE

WOULD BE LESS CHANCE OF THE AWFUL SMELL AND TO HIM THE CLOTHES

COME OUT CLEANER, AND UNLESS I PUT TOO MUCH DETERGENT NO

REASON FOR EXTRA RINSE.  GOT A MAYTAG, WARRANTY FOR 10 YRS.

MY CLOTHES ARE CLEANER AND WE GOT THE LARGEST CAPACITY TUB

AND I DO LESS LOADS.  NOW I HEAR THERE IS AN 'EXPLOSION' PROBLEM

WITH THE SAMSUNG FRONT LOADS.   I REMEMBER WITH MAJOR APPLIANCE

USE TO LAST AND LAST.

No, you are incorrect.  Samsung is having a problem with their top loading machines. In addition, there is a report issued by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission stating that there is a major recall across 34 types of brands all top loaders.

Re: Front Load Washers/Dryers--Which Ones Do You Like?

I have an older front loader washer and dryer and I will never purchase front loaders again.  I have too many issues with the washer in particular.  The odor is an issue too.

I recently shopped at Home Depot and researched online and the recommended w&d (non front loader) are Maytag or Whirlpool.  I have Kenmore HE's and they are awful.  Not satisfied with any of my Kenmore appliances at this point.

Good luck.  Wish we could go back to the days when appliances were made to last and not be disposable.

I wonder if it makes a difference where we live or where we have the washers as to whether there is a front loader smell problem.

We live in Oklahoma where it is normally very dry here, and we have our washer in the house where the HVAC is running all the time.  IF we lived in a climate with higher humidity and or had them in the garage or a damper basement, that might cause more problems with odors and mildew.

What do you think?

I think you only want a  front loader, and are discounting  those of us ,who have told you the reasons we don't like them

NO, I am not discounting the reasons I HATE my top loader, and pretty much have since we got it!  LOL!!!   A lot of people love the front loaders too.

@Sooner I think you're on to something because we too live in an area that has low humidity plus the washer is in the house where the HVAC is running a lot of the time. We have never had any issues with our front loader.

Re: Front Load Washers/Dryers--Which Ones Do You Like?

In 2010 I spent a little over $2,000 for a Samsung Steam front loader washer and dryer. The washer broke last year and I had a hard time getting someone to agree to try and fix it. The sears repair man came and fixed it and put in a new rubber gasket because mine was moldy. The fix lasted about 6 months and then the same thing happened again, leaking washer, error code, I had the man come out again and he said there was nothing wrong with it. The experience was awful, the washer and dryer are in my garage, thankfully because the washer leaked. I had to keep a bucket to empty the little hose. I kept the filter clean but it still leaked. Sears is the only place that will repair Samsung around here. So I purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio top loader and I love it. The tub is big so I can wash my king size sheets and my blanket in the same load not problem. I kept my Samsung dryer but it went south about 2 weeks ago. Next Saturday my new Whirlpool Cabrio top loader dryer is being delivered. I did not attempt to have the dryer fixed, because the cost of a new dryer is not that much more than a repair. I will never purchase a front loader washer or dryer again. Maybe a dryer but not a washer. The repair people recommend Whirlpool, Maytag, GE because the parts are easy to find. My Whirlpool appliances are made in America and that makes me feel good to. I left my door open on my old washer, wiped the gasket down after ever wash but I still got the mold. No never again will I buy a front loader and not Samsung, or LG because parts are difficult to get. The only Samsung I will buy now is a TV or DVD player. I have those and they are fine.

I have a Frigidaire.  It supposedly has Electrolux internal parts. Anyway, I've had it for five years or so, and works great.  The clothes are always very clean.  I've never had the odor problem.  They do say to leave the door cracked for a bit after every wash.  I've done that from the beginning, and never had an odor in washer.

Love my top loading Kemore washer.  Would never consider anything else.

Very reluctantly, we bought a front loader, non-agitator Kenmore about three months ago.

We bought it mostly because we had to buy a stacked set, and I madly loved the Kenmore I had to leave in my old house.

It has not once disappointed me.

I wipe it out afterach use and I don't consider that a big deal. No smell, no slime.....
