From Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Maisha has passed away

[ Edited ]

Maisha was a remarkable elephant.  She became a leader of the orphans and the protector and "nanny" to the very young orphans.  She died unexpectedly last weekend.  Here is a link about it.

@songbird  Well that just made me cry. I hope none of the others get sick with her illness and they can figure out what happened. They tried so hard to save her.

One reason I love this charity.  They really care about the orphans.  Maisha was one herself and not fully grown.  But she was a natural leader.  Had she made it, she would have become a leader of her herd.  I was touched to see she was the first elephant the babies met after they were rescued.

That is so sad. You could tell from the pictures that the babies loved her. Maisha was very brave. God love her.Heart

Such a kind, loving heart, a real presence for the lost babies.

They, along with the human friends, will be morning her loss.

Godspeed Maisha, your name will be recalled for a long time.

@songbird  Thank you for your post.  So very sad.  However, because of your post, I am now the proud adopted parent to Kindani and Kinyei, so, again, thank you.

What a moving story.  I share feelings of loss and the despair you feel when you just don't know what happened with Maisha's care givers and those who followed her story.  Thank you @songbird for sharing this post with us here.  You have extended Maisha's story even farther.
