@grandi  There is a  banner on our PO building in the Fall to apply for extra help. I have a new Postal Employee whose job is to deliver packages only that may be too large for the mailbox. She comes earlier than the regular mail drop.

I was a USPS worker for several years during the holiday season...enjoyed every minute of it and can appreciate/know the hard work involved during the holiday season.

I can also imagine how much more difficult it must be during a pandamic...thanks and prayers for all of the workers.

@mousiegirl USPS EMPLOYEES ABSOLUTELY CAN BE FIRED!  If they don't do their job, or there is misconduct or other things it can be documented and they can be fired.  And are.

@suzyQ3   You certainly cannot judge what is warranted for any person but yourself, and in my experience with USPS it is perfectly warranted.

@mousiegirl  Sorry you've had all those terrible experiences. We live in a small town and have never had problems. In fact we've always been friendly with all of our carriers over the years. We have had horrible times with some of the car dealerships in our area. Try to get your car in for a recall. It's impossible. They don't give a ----.

I really feel for these USPS employees.  I have a good friend that works at one of our local post offices and she is working quite a bit of overtime & is exhausted.  Only talked to her sister since she is working such long hours.

We have been very fortunate but I started ordering Christmas presents in early November.  They were predicting a big surge with very heavy shipping demands due to the pandemic.

The workers are not the problem  i imagine they are backedup from the election   I do know they have cut hours.  At least around here.  Our city had sorters removed and some sorters dont work well as they were missing parts.  The workers are amazing.  My postman is a trooper  but i know things have changed at some post offices.  They have. We area smallertown, 52,000 with one post office and the cut backs here were bad.    but some bigger cities are okay.   There is one distribution center down south that is a mess.  If my packages g through there, we can expect a five day delay

bless tose employees

Of course they can be fired.  No idea where the poster got the ridiculous notion they couldn't.

My brother and SIL were postal employees each for over 25 years.  My brother retired before her and she just retired this past March.  Things started getting so bad with the Covid nonsense they called her and begged her to come back which she did.  Now that's a dedicated employee as was my brother in all his years.  There is good and bad everywhere and granted not everyone will get perfect service all the time.  Of course I know first hand how hard they work and how many hours so I give them all kudo's!!   And yes, she finally was able to retire "again" during the summer.

@mousiegirl :  At least at my PO many delivery personnel and some clerks are conntractors and can be let go.  What you said about employee status may have been true in 1950s but not now.
