Fresca with a kick: Coca-Cola launching alcoholic version of soft drink

That Fresca will soon pack a punch.

Coca-Cola announced a partnership with Constellation Brands to launch an alcoholic version of the beverage called Fresca Mixed.

The boozy beverage is described as a "distinctive and intriguing brand that delivers consumers fuller-flavored, convenient, ready-to-drink cocktails using real spirits that are great tasting and high quality," said Constellation Brands in a statement.

The company said flavors will be inspired by fan recipes when it is expected to launch later this year.

“The Coca-Cola Company’s Fresca brand is not only trusted by consumers, but also directly delivers on consumer preferences for refreshment, flavor, and convenience – attributes that also play well within beverage alcohol and where we can leverage our expertise,” said Constellation president and CEO Bill Newlands in a statement.

My Fresca story........ When I was a kid, my grandmom drank Fresca.  I was spending the week-end at her house (as I often did) and came down with some sort of stomach virus.  The last thing I had before I got sick was a glass of Fresca.  After that, I couldn't touch the stuff.  I was about 10.  I'm now 65 and can still smell and taste it.  Ugh. The very idea of Fresca sickens me (not literally, but you know what I mean).  Hahaha

My parents loved Fresca and Wink....remember that one?

I am not a fan of either of them or any grapefruit flavor drinks or juice.

I wonder what spirit is going to be mixed with Fresca.

andy cohen drinks this all the time.....he mixes it with tequila and calls it a "fresquila."

i love fresca, squirt/diet squirt, ting, and jarritos.....havent seen wink in ages.

the Q brand of mixers makes a great grapefruit mixer.

the canned mixed cocktail industry has just exploded with choices. i know two of my kids love these things. i even tried some of the canned tanqueray and tonics and they were not bad at all. convenient for sure.

@Citrine1   isn't it amazing how long the reaction lives with us.   In the 1960's I had gall bladder surgery--  full surgery of course.  Second day out of surgery, my lunch tray contained a bowl of Manhattan clam chowder.  Haven't ever liked it since!

I will try it if it's fresca and the actual spirit. I just hope they don't use beer or hops.
