So great that they do this for the vets every year. It has become a tradition for dh and his brother to go together.

Unless a vet is retired or is on active duty, he/she has no proof of his/her status (except for a DD214 which no one carries), so how does one take advantage of these things?

I think it's great that those businesses offer discounts or freebies to the Veterans, but it would be nice if ALL businesses participated in some way.

I just looked at the banner and I see QVC is participating via a ""clearance event"" and 4 easy pays. It would be nice if they would do something more to promote our armed services and honor them during the day.

Re: Freebies for VETS on Tuesday

My husband and I had planned a few days ago to go to TGI Friday's for lunch today. I had a coupon for a free dessert that was due to expire tomorrow. Heaven forbid we let THAT coupon expire- LOL.

I read this morning that Friday's was giving a free entree to all active military and veterans, with ID. My husband is an Army veteran, from way back in the 60's. I have no idea where his military paperwork is.

Anyway, we got to Friday's and before seating us they asked if my husband was a veteran. I said "yes, but we don't have any paperwork with us. We were coming here anyway. We're good, thanks."

When the bill came, they had comped my husband's entree, we also got the free dessert for him from my coupon AND we got free chips and salsa because I belong to their rewards club.

I thought it was really nice of them to do that for him since we didn't bring any ID/paperwork with us. We were going there anyway so he could get a free dessert, with my coupon.

The place was packed. Very nice gesture by Friday's today and all businesses honoring Veterans this way.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Gadget, Did the people at Friday's ask if YOU were a vet? It always irks me, as a vet, that so many places just ask men.
