The Community College system in my state is excellent, still relatively affordable and extremely well funded by the State (I mean, all of us taxpayers). If one truly desires to go to college they will find a way to achieve that goal.

God help us that one of you would see someone else get something you didn't get! I can't see him getting this past this current congress anyway - but I think it's an excellent idea.My Dad was in the CCC before WW11 - when he was a teen and he always said it was the best thing that ever happened in his childhood. He learned the value of working to achieve a goal and learn a skill that he used for the rest of his life to make a living.
How about they work and earn whatever degrees they can to pay for their own college. Pay the gov't back? It will be us the tax payers paying for their college not the gov't. We are the gov't.
FYI - The gvt. student loan program now has interest rates so high it is a HUGE moneymaker for the feds. Yes, they do pay back the loans.
But if community college could be low cost or no cost (must maintain a certain GPA) - that overall student debt wouldn't be as high as it is now...and students could get on with their lives - buy homes, cars, etc. - keep the economy humming.

You are lucky.
Many states' community college programs are now just as expensive as state universities.

We NEED an educated populace to remain competitive with the world.
Exactly!!....plus...think about it...other countries are able to offer free education at college level or if not free then offers very affordable secondary education so why is America not able to?

Just look up the fees in each state.
In NY, the tuition went from affordable to out of sight at community colleges - when comparing credit hour fees, they are almost now identical.
This is recent.

I have friends who went through the education system in Germany. One is a MD, the other a college professor. All done with free education.
Canadian college is also very affordable, based on entrance exams.

Sure, and after that, let's change the United States of America to the Socialist States of America. The fundamental change is complete.
