Folks if you are unhappy that veterans are not getting their rightly deserved benefits, you need to contact your Representatives in Congress to bring back those moneys to fund the the VA Centers..

so once again you want to take a discussion into a biased political statement?

this from a lawyer?

there is mention of a medical exam. done by whom? Their local doctors? What about vaccinations? People traveling abroad have to get vaccinations to prevent the risk of disease. Are they getting immunized before leaving their country too, are the children required to get vaccinations like American children are?

the medical exams that are done for those immigrating to this country are done by qualified doctors/clinics that are approved by the US government/department of immigration and naturalization. the medical paperwork is included with all of the other paperwork needed to enter the country. it also must be done within a certain period of time so that the reports are not "stale" (i cannot remember if it is six months or a year).

i know immigrants and i know those who have come here on asylum....the process does not go that quickly. i am proud that this country will be taking in some of these refugees.

thanks @Maudelynn for adding that information.

i had read this article the other day and thought that what this couple did was wonderful so i am adding it to this thread.

60's girl,

you seem determined to bring this discussion down to personal attacks.  The question was asked about Vet benefits.  An answer was provided. Can you just confine your remarks to the discussion without all the emotion?  We'd like to keep the thread going.

Thanks.

Re: For those interested in the process

why does the bar keep getting moved?

VA benefits and getting treatment is a massive problem, but people need to look at the Congress for that.   Why was that cut?   And why keep voting people in who want to cut more?

This topic is about refugees.  These people are terrified and fleeing - their lives are in immediate danger.  Have none of you see the photo of the little dead boy washed up on the shore?

And since we have been accepting Syrian refugees for a while now, this unfounded fears over the current precautions in place just makes us look xenophobic and just helps ISIL recruit more.    We are helping ISIL by acting like this.

People brought up 9/11 - those terrorists were not refugees.   They were here on visas.  That program needs to be tightened up furthter.

I am not interested.  Here in So. CA we have many who never went through any processing at all.  Coming in from all over and they just stay.

Refugees can go to China, Russia, South America, Australia.  They don't need to be here and we don't have to accept them.

Also, many of the refugees lie to get accepted, never forget that.

A)  it isn't biased to state that a certain Congress (as they change every 2 years) cut funding.  That is a fact.

B) VA funding  has nothing to do with the refugee situation.  You wish to highjack this thread with your own agenda when someone tries to give some information about the refugee process and install some confidence for those who may not be aware that it is a very rigorous process.

This is the part of Mr. Hicks' piece that should be of concern:

sure, so that they can become Belgian citizens first, plan their attacks and then come to America as a Belgian tourist.

I chose Belgian only because that attack in Paris was masterminded by a Belgian citizen, was it not?  Could be any European citizen or one with dual citizenship living in Europe who simply wants to travel to US as a tourist.

Unless you close all borders for international travel, there is no surefire way for any country to keep out terrorists. I believe they exist right now in every country. We do not owe any war torn country entrance into ours. Syria is not the only country with threats from ISIL.

Africa has many nations that are enduring terror and have been for years. Why are we not providing refuge for them?

I am just about done talking about it but I wish these refugees well- I really do.. Hoping that none of them are the bad guys but who has a crystal ball, right?  As for our vets that I feel are treated unfairly, yes there were cuts to VA and our goverment is well aware of the situation both on the streets and off the streets... they should take more of an effort to do something about it, like they are about these refugees..  Aren't our homeless vets and people our refugees trying to find their place in towns and cities all over our United States of America?  Aren't they?  Why not give all our vets $1800.00 too?

It breaks my heart for everyone, is there really an answer to all the problems?

Gosh this is and has been a fantastic debate..  You all are the best!!   Now I have to get my rear in gear, know what I mean?

OHHHHH OT, this is my 5,000 post!!  It would be a whole lots more except the Q took almost all away with the new change!!

And once again who is going to pay for all this? This time of yearthe food banks are low with food and want us to chip in, Social security  ,I am told is bankrupt for the future generations and many other issues. There is a thread going on now about how government offices are slow due to understaffed offices. Some people are just not realistic of all this entails. I would love to be in the rich, rose colored country but the fact is we are hanging on by a thread defending our selves and our military is tapped out as it is volunteers only. Can we get back on our feet first? And no I didn't get my opinion from Fox News.

Wrong is still wrong just because you benefited from it.
