I live in Northern Virginia. We are getting slammed. For those of you who might be thinking it doesn't affect you (in another state), think twice.
I know (I have lived here all of my life) not much really gets done in the government. However, you have no idea how this town just shuts down, I mean shuts down. Not much in the way of government will get done.
It does affect everyone in one way or another. I live in an all electric home. We all figure we will lose our electricity (that means no heat, even the bathrooms won't work).
A few years ago when we had the last really big snow I was without electricity for 4 days. The electric, cable, everything wires went diagonally across my driveway, so I could not get out at all.
I was a pioneer (well, sort of ) woman for 4 whole days! I have some large batteries so I used that power to heat up a heating pad during the night and during the day I sat in my car watching videos (I have a portable DVD player). I put the cat in the car and we were nice and warm.
I live off of a very dangerous winding road so it took a few days for it to get plowed, then even when they did that I had to wait and get each company out to fix the wires. My telephone (I have a land line too) didn't work but I had my cell phone and charged it in my car.
You do what you have to, right?

This winter storm has a name????

@colliegirls Yes, I think they started naming winter storms last year. So now they can reference them by name, just like hurricanes, instead of just by date(s).

I was at lunch with a girlfriend when she received a text from her neice telling her the Manager at the Wegman's liquor store in Northern Baltimore County are advising ALL THOSE EMPLOYEES they will be closed on Saturday (Sunday I believe they closed as usual).
Now I am requesting everyone say prayers for those people who need to take public transportation - bus, light rail and subway home. The visibility is bad and hopefully no one gets left behind on a bus stop.
