Hi again @tansy, guess who?
My mailman was just here and he said he does deliver to locked boxes, but a lot of his main will not fit in the slot on many boxes. Thus that person has to go to their Post Office to pick it up. He also said for him they are a "pain in the a**/buttocks".
Said thieves wouldn't risk here(1 way in 1 way out) and only 3 mailboxes. They prefer streets lines with boxes where they can have a driver and a someone will to risk being charged with a Federal Crime, riding shotgun.
Straight from my mailman, and his boss. They were wheeling off the measurements from my mailbox to the porch where he delivers our packages. They measure all routes and that is how they measure the time it thinks it should take to deliver certain routes.
What a coincidence, eh? Saw him standing at our backyard gate and thought maybe his truck broke down or the ding bat's blamed him for his wheel touching their sacred grass(weeds).
Bye now,
hckynut(john)
Hi, John🙂. I attended a neighborhood safety meeting where the sheriff strongly recommended these locked boxes, as a way to prevent identity theft, @hckynut. There was a rash of mailbox thefts at that time, so we installed one.
Hope Cindy, the assorted furry ones and you are doing well this year!

Having a locked box at least protects me from the unprepared thief.

We live rural and our box is at the road.
We have more problem with our mail getting delivered to the wrong house than we do people getting in our box. We get other's mail and they get ours sometimes, and that makes me mad, as those kinds of mistakes should be very rare. We simply take our mail to wherever it belongs on the road, and others do the same.
My husband is home in the mornings when the mail comes, and is often outside doing things, so he gets it right away.
But good reminder at this time of year, to keep an eye on mail.

When my ex and I moved into my current home 35 years ago we were on a rural route, no home delivery. We had to get a PO Box at the local post office. When home delivery was offered a few years later we opted to keep the PO box which I still have. One reason was that my ex had a side business and received checks in the mail and also because I came home one day and the neighborhood small children had decided to play post office and re-distributed some of lthe neighborhood mail into different mailboxes......
Love my PO box. Nothing on my doorstep to steal, nothing in a mailbox on the street to steal.....
QVC now does not honor my PO box address for all purchases. I am just not biying anything that won't mail to my PO Box. Tried UPS and it was a disaster. I'm not always home when UPS delivers (FEDEX, too) delivers. The UPS driver was aaking neighbors to sign for and hold onto expensive purchases for me. Earth to UPS some of our neighbors are unknown to me and are crooks (showing up in our local newspaper for petty larceny)! Luckily my mis-deleivered purchases went ot TWO different but honest neighbors......never again UPS!

Good point and so true! I remember when I had my first auto alarm installed and some people saying stuff like 'well, if somebody REALLY wants to get into your car they WILL get in'. Well, no shirt, Sherlock! But locking/alarming things is a definite deterrent over not locking or alarming them at all. Duh, right? ![]()
I never understood the notion that locking is silly. So, just leaving your box/house/car/etc unlocked makes more sense? not

We live on a busy road. All the mailboxes here are at the end of the driveway, by the street. We have regular boxes. Can’t have locking boxes.
Sometimes, especially around the holidays, our mail doesn’t come till 9:30 or 10:00 at night. We always stay up and wait for it to come. One, because we don’t want it stolen and two, because if someone hits our box in the middle of the night, I don’t want our mail scattered to who knows where.

I have the same problem with misdelivered mail. If the person lives close by, I will walk it over to the correct address. Otherwise, I want the mail carrier to know just how sloppy he/she is:/

Hey, everyone. How about this? A few months ago, on a Saturday night, someone actually stole our mailbox, post and all. Totally gone.
Guess someone needed a new mailbox and liked ours.

If I locked my mailbox, the mail carrier couldn't wad my Q packages into a ball and stuff them in the mailbox. 😬

I drop my mail at the post office only. You can drive thru and put it in the mailbox.
