I thought everyone knew teenagers can't see past their own noses...everything in life is all about them and them only.

And most especially in the last 20 or so years. Couple adolescent narcissism with noses perpetually in phones, and the combination is (violently chewing gum) AWESOME.

Re: Fooled by teenagers twice this weekend

DD and I did discuss the weekend lessons learned and she got them before I had to tell her my views. I was proud of her knowing how to be kind and thoughtful to others.

At the same time my college son was home for the weekend and he told me how happy he was that over the years he learned these skills because at school he is amazed how many thoughtless jerks he sees in class.

Teenagers making plans is a nightmare! I always told DD to get details, but that never happened until the last minute, and last minute is what they do best.

Agreed! My kids are terrible about getting details. It seems like common sense to me, but I guess these skills are learned. I was probably just as bad as a teen. They don't think things through.

To solve this issue just always check first with the parent or parents of the other teen/child. That's what I always did with my children and that's what my daughter does with my grandchildren and their friends. We always tried/try to be familiar with the parents. as well as their friends. Not just because of getting the plans right but also for safety reasons of knowing what kind of people the kids mingle with.
