I'll continue eating foods I love as well as all very healthy foods. I've lived this long and I'm not going to deprive myself in order to live a little longer. I'll just continue to be happy during my remainder of my life and that includes my potatoes. Lol,

It seems eating these foods in moderation would not be dangerous. I guess if I were really concerned I would talk to a dietician or nutritionist.

It's exhausting and confusing to try and jump on every food trend/bandwagon.

Remember the egg discussions-don't eat, do eat, don't eat, now it's back to do eat.  I never stopped.  

 

Kale is the new "superfood".  Maybe, but I simply don't like it.  I just don't, so I don't eat it.

Raw is better.  Not for me. 

Vegan is the only way to live healthy.  No, not for everyone.

eliminate fat. Only if you want your skin and hair to look like a mummy.

 

Everything in moderation is a good habit to live by.  Reduce your portions. Limit your "treat foods". Try to include all food groups. It's healthy and sane.  What could be better?

Via quick googling, the only thing I consider "high carb" in that list is jicama - very.

 

Potato = 37 grams 1 med potato (not great but not ghastly)

Parsnip = 24 grams in 1 cup

Beets = 13 grams 1 cup

Turnip = 8 grams in 1 medium

Carrot = 6 grams 1 med carrot

Radishes = 0.2 grams 1 radish

 

Jicama = 58 grams in 1 medium

 

I would never be eating a cup of any of these except the potato, so the carb counts would be even lower for 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup.

 

I have long since lost interest in the "OMG don't eat this!" du jour. I eat what I want to, in moderation.

Jicamas are huge.  Take a look above at the report about jicama.  The true figure is given for a cup, and the carbs are reportedly about the same as a carrot.

Thanks for that, @Noel7. For each veggie I just used the very first reference that came up, since it was a quickie search. I've done further reading and yes, low carb/high fiber, which is great.

 

I'll have to add that I like jicama to munch on, but I've only ever had it at salad bars, I've never bought one to take home and prepare and not sure I'd go to the trouble, but it's definitely a like for me if it's available while I'm out & about.

I noticed that, too.  They gave carbs for an entire jicama, which must also weigh a lot.  We only eat little pieces on salads, rectangular strips.  It's nice when it's fresh and cold.  I can't imagine anyone eating a huge chunk.

I don't think anyone becomes overweight eating too many root vegetables.
