20 years ago, my former boss said these two things that I still remember to this day -

1.  When you discredit others, you discredit yourself.

2.  NO ONE is 'all good or all bad'.

I keep reminding myself of these - especially in this past year.

I have always adhered to "you never make yourself look good by making someone else look bad."  I have tried to instill this in my son.

I have always believed no. 1 is true.

Civility, spread it around.

That depends.  Statements like this are often used for guilt shaming.

For some, bad is subjective.  What is thought to be bad for some is thought to be good, appropriate and justified behavior by others.

When personal opinions and moral values are similar, everyone agrees. Serious conflict arises when they don't.

Everyone does have at least one redeeming quality, but bad behavior may be so overwhelming it generally cancels redeeming qualities.

Discrediting people like this may be necessary to prevent them from harming others.  Discrediting in this case is a good decision.

However, personal vendettas, revenge, jealousy, agendas, and critical of others opinions, says everything about those exhibiting this behavior, nothing about their targets.

@tarsmom

I disagree with both of them, don't see #1 as a mirror. Kinda like embarrassment, nobody can embarrass me, but myself.

As for #2!  I believe some people are just plain evil. Call it bad or by any other name, I don't buy into that theory.

Now me working for that boss? Might have been interesting.

Seems like a politically tinged and motivated thread not well disguised.

@Johnnyeager  There are quite a few here. Some of the long running threads that some posters are on have some not disguised either. They think they're getting away with something and don't have to follow the quidelines here.

I think #1 is not necessarily true. It depends on the circumstances.
I don’t agree with #2. I believe there are some people who are completely evil.
