For those that might be interested and/or considering having cataract surgery, this is a follow up to my surgery.
I had my surgery exactly 1 week ago, which was March 21st. What I did was have what is called a "Multi-focal" Premium Lens put in. This was in lieu of the standard "Mono-focus Lens", which is covered fully by Medicare and/or one's Secondary Insurer, if you have one.
This lenses are used for the purpose of possibly eliminating the need for the patient to wear glasses. My current prescription glasses have been tri-focals for over 20 years now, and the thought of not having: reading/computer/distance glasses sounded pretty good to me. I had a special pair made for using the computer. With Tri-focals there is the need of the "middle lens" for "intermediate distances", whereas the others are for "close distances and long distance visions". Had the full lens made of my Tri-focal lens, much easier to use the computer.
By last Wednesday, 2 days post surgery, I was able to read the newspaper and also the small print on my prescription med containers, and all this WITHOUT ANY GLASSES. And according to my Opthamologist, this will get even better over time.
Pre-surgery, any electronic component that used RED LCD lighting? They were all a "blur" to my eyes and I could not read any of them. I had stereo systems that I could not read because of this and also digital clocks with RED LCD readout numbers on them.
Now I can read them with no glasses and they are clear as clear could be. No ghosting, not blurring, on halo's around them.
Now this is from having only my Left Eye done. I can cover up my good eye and look at the color "sky blue", and with my bad eye it looks white. Now with my fixed eye it looks exactly like it should, "sky blue".
Thought I would share my experiences with this surgery. I am going to have my other eye done in maybe a month or so, and more than likely I will again go with the "Multi-focal Lens". The down side of this surgery is "medicare and secondary insurers, mine anyways", consider this Cosmetic Surgery, and will not pay the extra cost of having the Multi-Lens, which cost more for them to make. COSMETIC SURGERY? Baffles me, doesn't change my looks a bit, but might change how others look to me.
Hey, got any questions about my surgery I will answer them if I can. I know many of my older hockey playing friends are sure interested in ditching their glasses and have asked me a lot of questions.
By the by, the "surgery itself?" Completely painless, during and after.
