Re: Folks, you just can't make this stuff up...

[ Edited ]

@chickenbuttWhat a great write-up about your experience. I'm currently in a lupus flare and in constant pain. Have been miserable for four days with no end in sight. Have often thought of going to CO for some relief, but am unable to drive that distance myself. At one point a dear friend actually brought some back for me! However, I was relunctunt to try it with my seizures. He took the marijuana and smoked it himself (with pleasure). Not everyone has such dear friends! He's been a great friend since third grade; we've know each other like the back of our hands. (My son was their ringbearer when he remarried 39 years ago. Later, he was my sons' mentor in the car business. I helped him deal with his wife's battle with breast cancer . . . and her death three years ago. He helped me with mom's death last July.) Now he's a Harley owner and having the time of his life and seeing the country!

I think I'd be ready to have him bring some liquid marijuana to try. Don't think I could stand to smoke anything! When he brought all the stuff, it seemed so much work. Were you told anything about the drops that are used under the tongue? I'd like to know more about that kind of ingestion.

So pleased you are finding relief from your pain. Have read so much about the benefits. Like your experience, my friend returned with the same comments. It's very clean and regulated for what the buyer needs/wants. Makes so much sense. And very little is sold at a time to avoid overdosing or reselling. Thanks for sharing!

@Noel7Thank you. These flares appear without notice and disappear without any reason. Lupus is such a strange autoimmune disease; it simply moves around one's body. Never know where it will hit next or why. It's now snowing, so I think the weather may have had something to do with this flare. Once the snow moves out, I should be OK again. Weird, isn't it? On the bright side, I'm SO much better than years ago thanks to a great Rheumatologist and a good mix of meds. I'm no longer homebound and too exhausted to function. Was able to care for mom while she was in Assisted Living and Skilled Care for 14 years. That was a miracle and a huge blessing which I'm forever grateful. Appreciate your kind thoughts. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

@BirkiLady

I was diagnosed with Lupus in my early 20s, I know what you are going through.  They say the holidays are the worst on us, I'm struggling through, also.  I will keep you in my thoughts through this season.  I wish you all the best, and if you are on Prednisone for this round, I know what that's like, too Smiley Happy

Happy Holidays, @BirkiLady !

Re: Folks, you just can't make this stuff up...

Hi BirkiLady!  I'm so sorry that you have to go through this with little to no relief.  I can surely relate, for the most part.

Just be careful having anything brought to you if it's not legal where you are.  I know that's easy for me to say.  Is it at least legal for 'medical use' (i.e. prescription) where you are?  If so, maybe you can get a medical card.  I hear good things, although I haven't tried it yet, about the edibles (gummy bears, etc).  All you have to do, from what I understand, is to get a doctor to give you this 'medical card' and you can go to any dispensary, or however it's done in states where only medical is legal, and show the card.  You keep the card, so it's always an option.

I wish it was helping more with more of my different varieties of pains, but it has helped with some of my old war injury pains.  Still having a struggle with the trigger thumb situation and some of the arm/hand pain on the other side related to my broken arm from September.

Gettin' old isn't easy, no?    Take care and I wish you all the best!!

PS:  I'm a Birki Lady, too!  Smiley Happy

@Noel7What a kind comment!  Prednosone and I don't get along well. Tried it years ago and ended up in the ER with an allergic reaction. Have stayed away from all steriods since. Better to grin and bear it. Taking lots of warm epsom baths helps. I spent the better part of the past several days in bed under my heavy down comforter. It works in the long run. And, the snow stopped early this morning and the pain is gone! So grateful for the relief and anxious to attend Service tonight and join my family tomorrow. Didn't expect it.

My thoughts and prayers go out to you, as well. It's never pleasant to hear of another Lupus patient. Hope you've got an amazing specialist and a great group of friends to help you through the good and crummy times. If there is anything I can do to help from afar, please let me know. I rather enjoy this board, although I'm usually only around once each day.

Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with better health!

Well, since they were cited have been taken into the local jail in York for charges, I guess their Christmas won't be on their list of top ten this year...

@Susan Louise, Annabelle, Chickenbutt - Same couple. Just arrested AGAIN in Nebraska with $18,000 of drug money in their possession. Again, the dogs sniffed traces of marijuana residue in a bag in the car! He's 80; she's 70. I believe they are due in court tomorrow for their original offense in December (60 lbs. of marijuana "for a Christmas present.")  Can you imagine how stupid they are? This time their daughter was driving and a Trooper noticed! WOW.

I'm telling you, stay out of Nebraska if transportating anything illegal. Our State Troopers will notice!!

Feeling very, very fortunate. I put cruze control on 78 and GO (speed limit is 75). Have never been stopped by the men in blue! Dang lucky with all the driving I've done in my years on I-80. LOL (Geeze, I remember when it was built! Prior to that I drove on Hwy. 6, Hwy. 77 or Hwy. 2 to get out of Nebraska! That was a LONG time ago.)

Re: Folks, you just can't make this stuff up...

Maybe I am being naive, but when I see the ages of these people, I think first, they are too old to be driving that far. Second, older folks are more gullible to scams or pleas from younger family members.

Maybe the young crowd asked grandma and grandpa to bring it and convinced them it was okay. The elders would probably be happy to think they were doing something to please the younger group and to be included. I think it all sounds weird and maybe not the old people who made the plan, but younger who know what they really could sell it for if they could get it.

I also hate to think they would put people in their 80's in jail. That whole story is just so sad.

@teainlondonNaw. They are part of a massive drug ring out of CA. Have probably been doing it for years and getting by with it. Nebraska has funded and trained the dogs within the past few years. This has become a frequent occurance along I-80. The excuse of "for Christmas presents" was lame! Do you have any idea how MUCH MJ that was? Go on-line and view the seizure. It was in excess of $300,000 if memory serves me correctly. Not exactly "Christmas gift" expenditures. I don't feel sorry for them at all. Especially if they are stupid enough to do it less than a month later . . . and travel I-80 again. They need to get jobs and earn a legit living.

Who says 70 and 80 year old cannot be driving cross country? The majority of my friends are enjoying fabulous trips by car, plane. My road trips are limited (1) I'm single now and (2) health issues keep me from long trips anymore. My mom traveled abroad into her early 80's, where she often rented a car to tour various countries. Yes, older people DO drive long distances.
