I know, right? Although weed is now legal in my state I could never imagine trying to transport it illegally and, good grief, if I were I sure as heck would not be driving like a fool through other states. This is just stupid criminal stuff.
I'm glad they made it legal here. I had not smoked weed for a very long time (smoked through the 70s, 80s, and 90s, but never a stoner - always a responsible person with a job 100% of the time and bills always paid, etc) and now that I live in pain 90% of the time, it was interesting to contemplate it as something that might help me in that regard.
It was voted in last Nov and then I guess they had a lot to do to make it happen so it finally got going on July 1 of this year. I was curious to check out the scene, but I don't like crowds so I decided to wait a while.
Then time went by and I finally went to one of the local dispensaries early this month. Wow! What a sophisticated operation it is! You have to go through one door and offer your ID, then another door opens and you can go through that and then another one where they give you a rep to help you.
They are very nice and it was just so profoundly interesting! It's not like when I was young and you bought a lid or whatever ($10, BTW) and that was that. NOw there are all these different kinds. Some more for pain. Some more to just get high. Some for both. You can only buy so much per day, so it's not like you can walk in and buy a carpload of it.
It was an interesting experience. I just purchased a couple 3.5gram packets. Each packet is sealed up (like those zip lock type bags where the consumer has to tear off a wide strip along the top before it can be opened) and also has a plethora of information on the bag. It says when it was mfr'd, where, all these codes and names, percentages, etc.
Sales tax was about 18%.
I would never consider smoking it and leaving my house or taking it somewhere else. It's very odd, after so many years, and now being in my 60s. You think of some different stuff. The first time I was afraid I would get too high. I've always been very responsible so it just fine-tuned that and I found my spot (never have gotten too high - yet, anyway).
I find it does help with some of my pains to varying degrees. My back and neck have been considerably better, going from having extreme pain in both quite a bit. I'm having less inflamation, particularly since I'm having so much more with the hand on my left arm, that was badly broken a few months ago.
Anyway, sorry so long. I just thought I'd share in case it helps somebody else or maybe has somebody think about calling people who smoke a little weed awful names and consider them bad people. Just like with having a couple of drinks (which I haven't even done for ages), this can be done responsibly and actually do some good. I don't have it all over my house either. It's very guarded and kept far away from the dog and bird. My house is somewhat large so if you walked in my house you'd never know, so it's not like a drug den or something similar imagined by the Reefer Madness bunch.
And this is how it should be. Civilized and a business operation. I can go to a liquor store and buy whatever I want, though I rarely do, because I don't like alcohol very much. In my state, I'll probably never be able to go to a cannabis store because so many states are so backward with regard to just about anything... It's unfortunate and hard to manage when something legal in one state isn't in another... They've tried for years to contain this 'problem' and it hasn't worked. GIve up the ghost. Prohibition and temperance didn't work either...

I have never smoked MJ and have no interest in doing so. I don't think less of people that do. It's just not my "thing". I have to admit to a curiosity on how these dispensaries operated. I appreciated you in depth review of your experience.
It's not what I imagined at all. Perhaps I have watched to many Drama's. (smile)

Hi! Thanks for your remarks. I also appreciate your choice a great deal and love that your are curious as to how this works. I know I was! ![]()
I guess I just felt like sharing that experience, because it really was interesting and kind of freaky! ![]()
I had a horrible childhood and I suppose that was one way to have a little time to forget how unhappy, despondent, and never feeling safe or loved that I was, when I discovered it during high school. She never knew. I still got all A's because I knew what happened when I didn't, so even then I was the uber-responsible person I grew up to continue being.
I know it might sound weird, but I'm somebody who doesn't really go with extremes. There is so much area between one extreme and the other, and I feel a comfort level somewhere in the middle. But whatever I might do I, like you, don't judge others for not wanting to go that route. yeah, I think too much, too!
I always have been a thinker. That was another way, during my childhood, to take myself outside the horrors.

FYI the big sellers, so I read, are edibles.
My adult daughter has a condition that causes her tremendous pain a lot of the time, at least half of the time. She tries to soldier through it but we can see how much she hurts.
The other day I asked her if she'd considered talking to her MD to see if she thought medical MJ would help. She could at least use it when she was home and at night when it's at it's worst. I hope she asks, we did some research and it's the kind of pain that is helped. Her only other choice is opioids and she doesn't want to touch them.

People who think they know all there is to know about cannabis use and are sure it’s a tool of the devil amuse me.
When you have chronic pain that, long-term NSAIDs and opiates don’t really help - what is “better” for you - to use a substance in your own home that will take your pain away with no side effects, or to insist that your doctor give you opiates (good luck with that) that are only just so effective, are highly addictive and cause frequent death.
If you or a loved one has cancer and crawls through the days barely alive from pain, nausea and not eating, but by golly, wouldn’t touch cannabis for anything - well, good luck with that too.
I have found that you might be surprised that your doctor, who you would imagine is against it, isn’t, and wants your feedback on how much it helps you. Doctors are desperate for an alternative to opioids - they want to be able to suggest something else. Wise doctors are open to cannabis use in legal states.
Of course, what the couple in the OP were doing GOK but it wasn’t on a single household scale, or legal. I don’t condone that. But to mentally classify anyone and everyone who uses cannabis as a pot head or junkie who is as addicted to MJ as people are to heroin is ridiculous.

Right on, Moonchilde! I would like to think that we can get more people to understand something about which they have no knowledge and have only been told/taught things that are just not true. It's what I call the 'Reefer Madness Syndrome'.
If there is a person on the planet who hasn't seen Reefer Madness, it's worth a look-see, for the sake of comedy, as it's realy messed up. It's a short film from, probably, before even my time that extols the evils of weed - nothing but bs and lies, obviously. But every few years I watch it just for kicks. ![]()
Hey, if I had medical care, and could get pain meds as much as I wanted maybe I'd just try that. These are two entirely separate issues as pain meds are hard to get prescribed here, as malpractice insurance has always been extremely high.
After breaking my arm I had no choice other than going to a doctor. Got some pain meds for a while and enjoyed every now and then having a day where I could take a dose and feel almost like a normal person for a few hours. Outside of that, or finding the meds in other ways (which is seldom), I have no relief other than to try something about which I already knew a fair amount. Lots of new stuff to learn now, however. It was very simple back then.

I read she is really in her 70's (error first reported) and he is in his 80's. I don't think they will go to jail, but PD will want to know where it came from and where it was going..
