@Carmie Yes!!  Thats it!! What fond memories I have of getting and using those.  I was always in charge of directions!  We seldom got lost.  I was known to fall asleep on long trips....

@Franklinbell   I still have some to take us to the Jersey Shore and Williamsburg, VA in my car seat pocket.

Agree with you. Both spouse and I have a paper map in our glove box despite both of our vehicles having GPS. Whenever we are at a rest stop that has a state of Michigan presence in it, I pick up a handful of paper maps for myself and friends. They all take one when offere.

Re: Fold Out Paper Maps

@monicakm,
I get it if I lived in the city, but I'm in a suburb 40 mins north. So I can't blame "interference". It's me ... Woman Tongue

@Group 5 minus 1  You have to give them your map coordinates. Our address has a North and South of our street number. We give our coordinates and that directs them right to our house.

i will use GPS on my car or phone, i will even use mapquest online to print out directions if needed, i will ask people for directions, but i will NOT ever use a map again! never liked using them, even back in the old days LOL.

Think I got rid of all my paper maps back in 05 or 06 and got a Garmin.  Don't know if they are still out there?

Anyway, that silly thing was always "recalculating" when IT thought I made a wrong turn 😂  We had some heated exchanges about that!

@monicakm ..... interesting thread ....thanks...brings back many memories.  Loved seeing the AAA Trip Tik pictures....laughed at picture of where GPS takes you too.

We always travel with our atlas and state maps.  Most rest areas give out free road maps for the state too.  I like to read maps to see where we are going or alternate routes.  If we get in a jam, I use my Waze App.  It is pretty good.

Heard a story once of a grandfather who pulled out a paper map.  His grandson said..."what's that?"😂

 Ahhh, the good ol' days of figuring things out with your own brain.

Paper Maps:  When we used to drive the 2-day trip to Marco Island, FL ( below Naples ), DH would create an enlarged copy of each page where the trip route continued.  Then I would slip each page into a plastic sleeve and slip it into a flexible binder to use as we went through each state.

Worked well but at 80 we just fly...can't take the stress and wear and tear on the bones !

@jlkz. What a great idea!  You and dh were super organized.  That's sort of what AAA does if you are a member and order maps for an excursion.

I'm with you, now I fly.   Just riding in the car on a long trip is exhausting.
