Too funny, Cakers! Abbot and Costello could have turned that into a routine:

Hu's on first?

Who?

"No, Ho" ....

My husband received his free at work but in the past we've had to pay for them. The first time was at a pharmacy within a grocery store: $30. The insurance card was swiped and it paid nothing towards the shot. The next time he had it at Costco.

So far our BC has not paid for a single flu shot. I'm wondering why but never called to see. I thought perhaps it was because he didn't receive it at a doctor's office.

My Blue Cross hasn't paid for it the last two years either. I've gotten the shot at the pharmacy in our grocery store.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

Definitely call and ask - I realize there are different kinds of BC plans and coverage but I have to go to a participating pharmacy (PPO) to get mine free.

Another issue I have had - I've gone to Walgreen's (one of my PPOs) and they swipe my card and then tell me the database says I don't exist as a Blue Cross/BS insured customer. Last two years after told that I've walked next door to Safeway and they swipe it with no issue. Safeway said they think Walgreens keeps trying to run the shot thru as a pharmacy billed charge instead of a covered charge under regular medical so I've just given up on Walgreens.

I think y'all are right, the higher priced one is for 65 and over. I am not, but I think I am going to get that one anyway.

Here is why: I didn't get the pneumonia vaccine because it was not recommended for those under 65 and I have always been very, very healthy. THAT IS until June of this year when I was hit with Community Acquired DOUBLE PNEUMONIA. I got very, very sick from it and can understand how it does some people in. After finally recovering from it, I immediately got the pneumonia vaccine.

Thanks for your help!!

Question: I thought all health plans covered flu shots?? Or do those who have BC have to file to be reimbursed for vaccines/scripts?

I was told at a Walgreens that had a separate clinic that the pharmacy counter does not process those payments only the clinic does. So...if a Walgreens does not have an instore clinic maybe it is presenting a problem for some if they're not paying in cash.

I see a few posters here ""can't tolerate"" the flu shot.

How did you find that out?

moonchilde: Glad it worked out with minimal soreness. DH also got the 65+ shot.

I spoke too soon. Arm is still sore (and kept me awake last night), but I'm sure it's just 'injector error', i.e. the tech who gave me the shot got the muscle :-(

Great story, Cakers!{#emotions_dlg.laugh}

I get the flu vaccination not only for myself but also for those I might harm if I do get the flu, as other posters have said. The complications of influenza can be devastating. It's not 100% effective but it's a good shot (pun intendedWink) toward better health for us and for all those around us.
