In looking at the behavior of the virus in New York, it moved quickly to a very high peak and stayed there for a while. It was very slow to come down. They still have to get thru today and the holiday, and deal with the subsequent impacts of 4th of July activities, so they are still rising. Seems to me that a shutdown is inevitable. There is no other way to control it.
And, testing is up but so are the number of positives and hospitalizations. Deaths are trending upward, too.
Many towns and counties have just ordered masks to be mandatory in public but it will be a few weeks before we see if people are complying, and if it helps or if it is just too late. Maybe someone can chop Florida off at the state line and sink it.
@willdob3I know you didn't really mean this bit about sinking Florida, but I still don't like this joke. I have extended family there. They don't deserve what is happening to their state and don't support any of the ridiculousness. There are lots of older people there who can't leave their homes right now because of what is going on. It's a like horror show in slow motion. And no one is protecting them.
How about we just send DeSantis out to row without a paddle?
Do you feel the same way or did you about Cuomo?

I thought we were talking about what's going on in Florida.
How I feel about Cuomo is irrelevant to the discussion.

This is going to be big. Florida is going to need help. They are going to need resources and a team of worker bees at the federal level - a rapid response team to help them get the virus under control. Based on the NY experience and experiences of many countries around the world, the Feds know exactly what is required. Everything should be assembled and put in place awaiting the call. In dealing with human lives it is better to over prepare than under prepare.

@Firefly901 We can’t even get help at the state level. The governor still believes we already have things under control.

If he really believes that, I don't even know what to say here that wouldn't get me a long time out.

He was describing how he has three ventilators and six patients who are under 30 who all desperately need one. And trying to make that decision, you can tell it is extremely stressful for all of them. Also how much wear and tear on the body of having oxygen forced into it for weeks on end. These medical workers are living angels.
I wish the folks who cry "hysteria" and roll their eyes at "covid" could do volunteer work in these hospitals.
Making the decision of how to allocate resources is gut wrenching. I wish we had manufactured more during those few months we had. ...
Your intent is so obvious, I stroll on by.

@Firefly901 What is needed is leadership. As per meeting this week, no concerns.
The mayors in South Florida have banded together and closed beaches, bars, and even a curfew. But, the rest of Florida, every man or woman for themselves.
We wear our mask, face shield, hand sanitize when we must go out.
Only visiting with my granddaughters via FaceTime even though they live 35 away. DS is back at work and DIL is a dental hygienist, 2 days a week. We are over 65 and have some issues of concern.
Very sad.Have no faith that this will be over anytime soon.

@Zhills You are right........Gov. DeSantis can't fix stupidity because it starts with him! As a Floridian I have had to live with his decisions as well as his lack of judgement on a daily basis as the numbers in my state climb daily! Thank heavens, we have some Mayors who are willing to do what needs to be done. Jacksonville will host a convention in August. DeSantis fought to have it here without restrictions! What will the numbers be like then?
We have an enemy ........ a villain .........it is a threat to all of us .......... it is called the corona virus ........ we need to fight it any way we can to make sure of it's defeat!
