That's crazy! Do you think this will lead to a mass exodus of people in Florida or does it just affect those mainly along the coastal areas?
@JJsMom Anywhere from Palm Beach south is very hurricane prone. Citizens Insurance run by the state will insure anyone that can't get a regular carrier insurance. I know people that have moved to North Florida around the Gainesville area and insurance prices are very low and they have had NO hurricanes.
@Estellee @They need extra sinkhole protection there.

Agree @chrystaltree It's beyond scary - and yet too many do not believe in global warming. I have a 7 yr. old great GS and I dread to imagine what the world will be like for him in the future.

I don't imagine it's good for ocean life when the water gets so hot. Are fish and marine mammals killed? What about undersea vegetation?

@ValuSkr @Some things die directly from the heat but more things die as a result of the collapse of the ecosystem when coral dies. The coral dies from the heat.

The damage warm water does in the sea is bleach coral. Eventually they'll all die. Strange things are happening in Florida waters. Orcas have suddenly appeared. They don't normally get so close to the coast there, but they have now. In the past, it was very rare to see them. Now they're out there. Unlike other marine animals, Orcas are just as comfortable in warm water as they are in the Arctic. So the water has affected prey and that's why they are there. I think marine animal populations have shifted around.

I think the coral reef is the most vulnerable; it is quite fragile anyway and is important to maintain the ecosystem, especially the coastal areas there. I don't buy into much of the climate change philosophy but have been concerned about our oceans since I was young....it makes up much more of our planet that we do....and the sealife needs to be protected....makes me mad when we go to the beach and I see plastic cups from cruiseships tangled up in seaweed. I remember in 1980 our state hit high temp records all summer. Even with the triple digits we have had this summer, still not as hot as it was then. Fall will be here for everyone eventually. Save your beach trip until there is a ****** in the air!

I'm predicting within the next 15 years, we will have a climate refugee problem from our own country. Millions of displaced citizens needing help to move and obtain shelter after losing everything to flood or fire. Im not talking a few random families here or there. Im talking whole communities and businesses. Insurance companies know this is going to happen, which is why they are no longer offering policies in certain states.

@Mindy D that is true, they get the sinkholes, my friend lives up there and she still pays much less for her policy with all coverage including sinkhole than I do in Southeast Florida with hurricane coverage.
