The Village of Ruidoso confirms that three people have tragically lost their lives as a result of the historic flash flooding that swept through the community on July 8, 2025. The victims were swept downstream by the unprecedented floodwaters that struck the area.
The fatalities include:
40-50-year-old male
4-year-old female
7-year-old male
All three individuals were caught in the rushing floodwaters and carried downstream during the catastrophic flooding event that saw the Rio Ruidoso rise to a record-breaking 20 feet – five feet higher than the previous record.
"Our hearts are broken for the families who have lost their loved ones in this terrible tragedy," said Mayor Lynn Crawford. "The entire Village of Ruidoso extends our deepest sympathy and compassion to these grieving families during this unimaginably difficult time. We are united in our sorrow and our commitment to supporting one another as we face this devastating loss together."
The flash flooding occurred Tuesday afternoon when heavy monsoonal rains fell on burn scar areas from last year's South Fork and Salt fires, creating dangerous conditions that led to rapid water rise throughout the village. Emergency crews conducted 50-60 swift-water rescues during the event.

When will these natural disasters stop. Enough.
Too many tragedies.

I used to think it would be fun to live right by a river.
I changed my mind on that one.
At least where I live in central Florida, we have warnings about hurricanes and time to leave should we chose to. Not much you can do about floods that come up so quickly.
The thought of those young girls losing their lives is so so so sad. Even the ones that survived will likely struggle with the memories for a long time.

I saw films of that and hope our friend on here is safe. Kachina. I honestly, thought of her first.

I believe @On It used to post pictures of all the wildlife in her area, and that made me wonder how the animals fared there. I hate to think how many were lost.
I saw a video of the Texas floods showing a deer swimming for her life, with a baby following behind and couldn't bear to watch through my tears. I hope they made it, but my heart hurts to think they didn't. I read that Austin Wildlife Rescue (Texas) had already rescued around 70 animals right after, and said they were searching for more. They said it was "baby season" for a lot of animals who created nests or had dens on the ground. ![]()

The book wasn't written when the USA was declared a nation. The New World was not yet discovered.
What should scriptures have to do with anything here in North America?
