Hello, I just saw on the news that there was a fishing contest in Ohio. Well, I guess the organizers of the contest thought something was "fishy"....turns out the gentlemen that won put weights and fish stuff in the fish to make them weigh more! Seriously! You just can't make this stuff up! Have a great day everyone!

Crazy but the article did say that the prize was $30,000 and competitions like that have huge payouts, tens of thousands of dollars.  And cheating is not uncommon on them.  The problem with that gut is that his cheating was obvious.

Saw this on the news. Cracked me up! Those cheaters were bragging how they win before the contest started. Can anyone be trusted any more? Do some people think it's OK to cheat?

Glad they were caught!

Cheating has gone on for as long as there are fishing contests. Stuffing the fish you catch with bait/tackle is the lazy way to cheat. The true innovators will have their own pond where they raise trophy-sized fish then transport them to the pond where the competition is to be held and use a cage they plant with the fish in it in the pond overnight before the competition. They'll then head to that spot and "catch" their fish and discard the cage and head for the weighing table.

Organizers of these contests know people cheat and will often gut the fish and check to ensure they're not "stuffed" and in some cases will even run a DNA test to ensure they're from that lake or area. If a fish's belly is full of pelletized food, they'll know it was farmed. There can be big money and fame with winning certain fishing competitions, so people will cheat to win. And they often get away with it. Catching the cheaters is harder than catching the winning fish.
