First my dog Cody and now this?

[ Edited ]

A few days or a week ago, I posted about our dog Cody's terminal illness. Thank you all again for your heartfelt replies.

So this just boggles my mind: My daughter just messaged me from where she is attending a business meeting that their dog Shay (an eight-year-old golden retriever) has to have surgery to remove a cancerous tumor on her leg. They will then assess her prognosis.

Shay had recently decided not to go upstairs anymore. My daughter felt something on her leg but thought it was just a fat deposit. It wasn't.

What in Hades did we all do wrong here?

Oh no @suzyQ3  I'm so sorry about Shay.  Hopefully with her fairly young age, she'll have a very good prognosis.  (((((( @suzyQ3 ))))))).

Our dog friends seem to be susceptible to just about the same maladies and illnesses that aflict humans.  So sorry that this is happening to your much loved fur babies.

As my Irish mom used to say, " for the love of Mike!".

Why is this happening??!! Shay 's youth is a plus.

@suzyQ3  - I've only just seen your posts about Cody and Shay.  I'm so sorry that this is happening.

Years ago, when DH and I were living in England, we had a beautiful golden retriever named Carly.  She was perfectly fit and then one day she suddenly went downhill rapidly.  We got her into the local animal hospital and they had her on a drip-feed for several days.  They thought she was turning the corner and then she declined again.  The diagnosis there, although our vet was trying to be very kind, was some form of cancer.  Back then there was no option of chemo and I don't think we'd have put her through it, even if there had been.  She was only eight years old.

I absolutely know what you're all going through and you have my prayers.  You, nor your daughter, have done anything wrong.  You've done everything right, by providing loving homes for your two dogs.

Re: First my dog Cody and now this?

Our family lost 2 beautiful, seemingly healthy dogs to cancer within 6 weeks of each other.

First dog had a seizure late one evening, came out of it fine, and we were in the vets office when it opened the next morning.   The dog had a seizure there, and the vet felt sure it was cancer that had metastasized to the brain.   We didn’t let our boy suffer any longer.

Two days later, my daughter took her dog to the vet because of an issue in his hip.   Xrays showed a mass in his lung, and cancer in his spine.  We had a few weeks with him before he showed us he was ready to go.

Both of our boys died with 6 months of the power company spraying the right of way behind our house, not far from their dog houses.
