First major snow in nearly 2 years

Only about an inch.  But considering what we've had before, impressive.  It's been nearly 2 years since we had any snowfall. We've had faint impression of snow, but that's it. I was shocked  looking outside this morning.  No school! Yay!  So I don't have to go to work. Tomorrow will bring more snow, but probably not more and it will be mixed with rain, so it'll all be gone anyway.  Took in the trash.  Trash collection was going today.  Major banks are closed, but small ones might be open. No mail. Mixed bag of what is open or closed.

@songbird    Where do you live?  There is no normalcy to weather anymore

Maryland.  For nearly 2 years, we would get a light dusting of snow.  During the big snow storms in the Midewest, we would get several inches of rain.  We got nearly 3 inches ones storm last week.  This time artic air came inland enough, so rainstroms moving through became snow.

Weather in the future will become more erratic.  Up till now our temps were in the 40's and 50's.  Everyday.

I wish we had just 1". That wouldn't distract us at all.

We had 2 blizzards within 3 days last week, 19" new snow, 6-10' drifts, piles of snow everywhere, high winds, etc. Our high temp today is -10 F and that's warmer than the last few days. We may see a few people in shorts today.

@CalminHeart  Yep.  I've heard of the snow storms.  Frustrating when all we would was rain.  Heavy rain too.  We've had some flooding.  I really woke up this morning.  Regular time (5am) and it was a shock seeing white on the ground. I'm guessing by tomorrow, it will be gone, becasue rain will come..  Though our temps will take a dive.  I looked later into next week and temps will warm up too.

I'm probably 4-6 hours west of you. It's been a nasty week of blizzards, cold, and winds. I'm beyond tired of winter.

In Jersey right now it's 25 degrees, with no wind. Yesterday the wind was gusty, it pushes you as you try to walk to the mailbox!

Happy Monday! I hope you have time to snuggle in a blanket and stay warm! 🌞 | Good morning winter, Happy monday, Monday morning quotes

Re: First major snow in nearly 2 years

For those of us in New Jersey, there's typically a rain/snow line that more or less follows I-95. If you're west of I-95, you get more snow. If you're east of I-95 and closer to the ocean and its warmth, you get more rain. It all depends on how the storms track. For the last couple of years, they've largely tracked more to the west and brought in warmer ocean air with the precipitation making it rain. Those trends never last too long. We're due to get buried under mountains of snow again. February is the big snow month here. That's when storms seem to decide to move further East and clobber us.

@songbird Also, today is the day that Martin Luther King's birthday is celebrated.

So here would be no school or mail delivery.

Nice to have a day off. Enjoy the snow.
