Re: First New Marquee on Broadway

On Broadway at least, I think that the straight plays with smaller cast and crew would  open first to reduced capacity,  being safer and less expensive.

The large musicals have more of a problem given cast and crew size and most need nearly a full house nightly to break even or turn a profit.

Re: First New Marquee on Broadway

We go to see a Bway show about once a month through our local JCC. They provide transportation to and from the theater and give us lunch.  When the shutdown started we had paid for 8 shows. We were able to get refunds for 7 of them but were told that The Music Man would honor our tickets when it opened. I miss the theater!!!!

@sunshine45  Great list!  Tootsie was a delightful surprise when I saw in previews.

Reiki604,

How much I would love such an offer to see a Broadway show (with lunch included)!

You are indeed extremely fortunate to have this available to you.

The news of an imminent opening buoys my spirit and my hopes for "a morning after" following this dark time.

I know how lucky I am to be able to do this. My parents loved Bdwy and I grew up listening (singing and dancing)  to soundtracks of different musicals. Once in a while we'd all go  to a show together for a special occasion.

@reiki604   My parents listened to soundtracks of Broadway musicals, too.  I grew up in a small town and there wasn't much theatre.  They took me to Charlotte, N.C. one time to see Betty Grable in Hello Dolly.  I was young but do remember loving it.

My mother went to Columbia University and saw every musical (or play, I'm not sure) on Broadway while she was there.

Re: First New Marquee on Broadway

Love plays and hope they are able to open safely this year.  In my attic I have boxes of old playbills which every year I say I will toss but never seem to be able to get rid of them.

@Johnnyeager

I worry about our community theaters.

Albuquerque's Little Theatre -- where Vivian Vance practically began her career -- may be closing its doors after 90 years in operation.
