First New Marquee on Broadway

For those interested in theatrical developments and progress, specifically on Broadway, on Thursday the first new marquee in nearly a year went up.  This production now has a home, but no opening date has been announced.  That is pending specific guidelines from city and state officials.   This is the Golden Theater on West 45th St awaiting an audience.

It's likely that Broadway protocols will mirror those of professional sports.

Re: First New Marquee on Broadway

It is so good to see!!!!  I love the theater and Broadway and have seen so many excellent plays.  I miss the excitement of it all.

I hope Broadway opens up again very soon and that choice of entertainment returns.  It is such a part of that area and my life.  This is a positive sign we are getting there!!!!!!!!

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come (very soon).  I'm an avid concert goer and I so, miss being able to do that.  I love Museums and have not been able to get to a few I want to go to in other states.  I love modern dance, and I so miss that as well.  The fine and performing arts have always been special to me, and I can't wait till we get back in the swing of things.

I'm also pleased that these folk can begin to earn a paycheck again.  The theater district in New York brings in big $$$ from tourists and I'm sure the city can't wait for the upswing.

Thanks for sharing @Johnnyeager

My husband works at a Broadway theater.  They have been working the past couple of months getting the theater ready to reopen.  I am SO happy....I love the theater, I love NYC and I love my husband having a job lol!

The last thing I did before the shut down was to go see "Waitress."  I love going to plays.  They had just started talking a lot about the virus and I remember thinking about it while sitting so close to someone else.

I'm so glad I got to see that play before everything was shut down.

I enjoy reading positive threads, and this thread put a smile on my face.  When it is physically safe for patrons and actors to return to the theaters, I say On With the Show!

Re: First New Marquee on Broadway

I can’t wait to get back to the theatre! I see a lot of the touring shows, but also have subscriptions to the opera and, most recently, the Shakespeare theatre. It’s been so long that I teared up a little last week when I got in my car to go to the immersive Van Gogh exhibit - I was just so happy to see ART in any form!!

W/r/t Broadway - I thought the rumor was that Hamilton would reopen in July (7/04), and I thought that was supposed to be the first to reopen. But that’s probably old, stale news.

Re: First New Marquee on Broadway

we attend "broadway across america" at the hippodrome in baltimore. they seem pretty confident that they will reopen for the 2021/2022 season and have released the schedule. we have already paid for the entire season since our subscription plan just rolled over from the 2020/2021 season which was not to be. i was really sorry not to be able to see to kill a mockingbird with richard thomas.

the last show we were able to see was hamilton and what a show it was!

not sure what they will be doing with seating, if anything. the seats at the hippodrome are pretty tight. it was originally built in 1914 and then rebuilt to add some more space in 2004.

No, you got it right @Alter Ego .  Hamilton is expected to come back on July 4th.  I looked into that because I want to see that play.  Oh, please let it be.  It was even suggested that Hamilton "could" be fire the first play to welcome theater goers back to Broadway.  Don't care if it's the first or not.  I just want it to come back, because I have never had a chance to see it and I must!!!!
